Experience on effective communication and process for improving performance
Personal reflection is defined as the learning by experience in gaining insights, changed
practices and self perception. Reflection on experiences promotes complex learning and insights.
It includes application of own learning to discourse beyond original circumstance (Boud, Keogh
and Walker, 2013). This reflective essay is based on my experience of effective communication
and the process that enable to improve my performance by using Driscoll's model of reflection.
The application of reflection enables me to explore diverse areas that helps to improve my
communication skills. It also assists me to enhance my understanding regarding how to
communicate in improved way. I am a student and currently studying in the university. While
working in the group with my classmates, I realize that proper communication is very necessary
as it assists in understanding the things in more better way.
Description of event
When I joined the university, my communication was very poor and I was hesitate in
interacting with others. I was not able to stand in front of others and say something. This is due
to having less confidence. But now, my communication skills are improving gradually.
Meanwhile, I have analysed that some of improvement is observed by my peers regarding my
communication. It is identified that my grammatical errors while framing sentences which
facilitate much improvement in communication skills.
Analysis of event
When I was in 1st semester, my teacher asked me to give presentation in group of four
members. I was so tensed that time and hesitated to stand in front of class and gave presentation.
I loose my confidence level and not able to say even a single word. At that time, I was not
interacted with the classmates. I hesitate to say anything to others as I am afraid about what I am
saying is right or not. My classmates were also not liked to talk with me much and when I asked
something to them, they didn't replied. All this hurts me so much and after that incidence, I
realized that communication is very important in order to convey our views to others. Then, I
tried to involve with other people and started interacting with others. I trying to share my views
with others and understanding what others want to say. This brings improvement in my
communication skills and my communication skills are improved gradually. Previously, my

communication is poor because of the strong factor of hesitation and lack of confidence which
impact negatively on my entire presentation skills. However, I have put effective efforts and
begin to make more interaction with other people that helps to improve communication abilities.
Learning from reflection process
By application of reflection, I learn about the importance of communication and how to
improve communication skills. When I started to interact with others, I enable to improve my
skills and enhance my confidence level. I learned how to effectively work with others and give
presentation in more effective way. This helps me in presenting my views in front of others in
appropriately and make them understand what I want to say. Improvement in communication
leads to build confidence level and enable to communicate effectively with others and in front of
public (Coulson and Harvey, 2013).
Proposed actions
In order to keep improving my communication skills, I will constantly work on myself
and takes participation in various activities. This will helps me in improving the communication
in more effective way (Boase-Jelinek, Parker and Herrington, 2013). This will further helps me
in future career growth in both personal as well as professional context. I will also attend some
training programmes on communication skills that supported me in learning some basic tactics
that support in making a conversation more clear and attractive. Despite of this I started reading
more books that will helps me in improving my vocabulary and learning new words which I can
use to make my conversation better and more meaningful. It has been evaluated that, my
effective participation is different activities proved much efficient in terms of boosting up my
communication as well as confidence.

Influence of working and communication on my behaviour, performance and experience in
professional context
Throughout my experience within the university and my course work I become able to
develop my inter personal skills which play a crucial role and support in performing my task
easily. By being participative within several class room activities like delivering of presentation,
group discussion and role play I become able to develop my communication skills which support
a person in presenting his/her view in front of people within more clear and concise manner,

because of which it hold greater importance not only in academical area but also in professional
life. By taking participate in presentation activity I become able to confront the huge public and
learn how to speak in front of them and making them agree over my view point. This contributed
up to a great extend in improving my performance throughout the other activities (Cunliffe and
Easterby-Smith, 2017). As I become able to develop a sense of self confidence which always
motivated me to perform better and improve my performance so that I would be able to achieve
good grade through out my course work.
