INTRODUCTION
Everyone wants to be successful in their lives and for that, one has to work hard
and put in their best efforts. Enhancing knowledge and building creativity contribute to a
person’s overall (Allina, 2018). An individual should also continuously work on his/her
self-improvement. This report explains a person’s experience of effective
communication as well as the process that enabled him/her to improve their overall
performance. The person is working as a manufacturing operator in Faurecia, an
automobile company. The report also contains a reflection of how working and
communicating in a professional context has influenced individual performance.
PART A
Effective communication contributes significantly to an individual’s overall growth
by increasing their productivity as well as efficiency. I used to work as a manufacturing
operating at Faurecia, which is a French automobile company that supplies automotive
across the world. The company is headquartered in Nanterre, France and was founded
in the year 1997. Manufacturing operators within a company are responsible for
performing various mechanical tasks. They are required to work on machines, use
heavy mobile equipment, maintaining the equipment, attend training sessions etc. Since
an important part of their job is also to coordinate with the employees, they should know
how to communicate effectively. Effective communication played an important role in
the job because it makes sure that final goals and targets are achieved. The employees
also get a clarity as to the employees about what are is expected of them.
One of the other responsibilities of the job was to ensure that employees in
different departments worked effectively (Beghetto, 2016). When many departments
work within a single company, they should work in coordination with each other. It was
experienced that effective communication came in handy during this time because it
was closely related to the different managerial functions in the company. It helped in
bridging the gap across departments among employees through a structured flow of
information as well as understanding among them. Effective communication allowed the
employees within the company trust each other and engage more in their jobs. Also, it

provided them with a clarity and direction as to how can they improve their overall
performance. Not only this, it was seen that effective communication also promoted
team building in the company. This further led to an overall improvement in the
productivity as well as performance of the employees.
This can be explained through Driscoll’s model of reflection that includes various
questions. The model was basically created for a person to reflect upon their
performance. This is one of the simplest models of reflection which was developed by
Driscoll in the year 1994 (Know The Driscoll Model of Reflection, 2019). This model
comprises of three simple questions that helped me in improving my overall
performance. A sudden situation can come up anytime and once while working in the
company, one of the equipment stopped working. I saw that a part of the equipment had
stopped working. I felt that this was due to poor maintenance of the equipment and
immediately informed my supervisor regarding the same. But there was a lack in my
communication as I did not completely describe the situation. Other workers noticed the
same and stopped the operation. During the time of the incident, I felt that something
had gone wrong, although now I feel relaxed.
From this incident, I learnt that one should always be prepared to face an
unusual situation within the company. This is because a sudden situation can arise
anytime and there should always be a backup plan prepared. Since I was assigned the
duty to overlook and monitor that all processes took place effectively, this was one of
the reasons I felt differently from others (Davidson, 2017). But the whole incident helped
in improving my process because I learnt that effective communication plays an
important role in making sure that all the operations in an organization play an important
role. This experience also taught me that an individual should possess effective
communication skills.

Reflection
Working and communicating as a manufacturing operator in a large company like
Faurecia significantly helped me in improving my individual performance as well as
behavior. I got a chance to build and enhance my network as well as build effective

communication skills. This is because being able to communicate effectively can help in
enhancing overall productivity which will further lead to improving performance. I gained
an experience which will also be useful for my future endeavors. Because if employees
in the company will not be able to communicate effectively, the company will not be able
to function in an effective manner. Working at Faurecia also helped me develop team
skills and be comfortable in working with others (Sternberg, 2016)
. And for this, the company offered various opportunities to its employees like group
tasks etc. This also led to a change in my overall behavior as a person and I now feel
more confident.
My overall levels of motivation as well as innovation have also gone up because
they have become necessary for getting a job in a company that operates across the
world. Not only this, my overall level of individual performance has also increased and I
feel much more confident. The company has a policy wherein it recognizes and
appreciates employees based on their overall performance (Torrance, 2018). This not
only contributes to the overall growth of the company, but is also one of the ways to
motivate employees. Effective communication helped me communicating important
information with my team members and making sure that a transparency is maintained
in the company. I have also developed effective listening as well as verbal
communication skills. This has further led to an improvement of my overall behavior as
an individual. Not only this, I have gained a lot of useful experience out of working here
at an organization like Faurecia.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that effective communication plays
an important role in enhancing overall productivity of an individual. Also, it allows an
individual to communicate with others and build an effective network with others. This
not only leads to an improvement in performance but also increases their motivation
levels.
