Communication is the process where ideas, facts, emotions and expressions are
exchanged between two persons. The receiver decodes the messages sent by the sender for
gaining better understanding of the intentions of the sender. In this process, signs, symbols
and semiotics are used for mutually understanding the message forwarded by the other
person. I think the communication needs to be clear and concise, so that the other person can
get the message. Therefore, body language, expression and eye contact needs to be
maintained for improvising on the stability between the two persons. The thesis statement of
this essay would be to excavate the importance of communication skills in enhancing the
personality.
Communication is done between two persons with the motive, which is to share the
ideas, information and facts. According to me, this communication needs to be open and
transparent for averting misunderstanding, conflicts and dilemmas. I think a channel or
medium is of utmost importance in terms of transmitting the message to the receivers.
Referring to various sources, I have learnt that communication can be divided into
information theory, communication studies and bio-semiotics. Information theory deals with
quantification, storage and communication of the information. My knowledge regarding
communication processes acquired by the humans, has enhanced through the study of
communication studies. I am particularly interested in learning about the communication
between the living organizations, which is covered by the discipline of bio-semiotics.
I have gained an insight into the different communication styles, which assists the
people in interacting with others belonging to different socio-cultural backgrounds. As a
matter of specification, I can highlight the communication types of verbal and non-verbal,
which attains commonality. In non-verbal communication, the people indulge in interactions
through signs, symbols and gestures. In contrast to this, I can say that verbal communication

is the process in which symbols are manipulated for transmitting the information to the
receivers.
Conducting explorative research has helped me to learn about the importance of both
verbal and non-verbal communication for enhancing the productivity in the workplace. In
this, I can cite the example of managers, who nominate the employees for giving
presentations. I think this is a planned and reasoned approach towards enhancing the
communicative skills of the employees. I have also gained an insight into the written
communication, which is adopted for processing the emails and confidential information to
the clients and the customers. I have learnt that formal language is important in terms of
transmitting the important messages to the receiver.
Explorative approach towards researching about communication has also assisted me
to enhance my knowledge regarding the application of communication in the form of
strategic planning, public relations, media relations, customer relationship management
among others. On the contrary, interruptions in the systems obstruct the process of
transmitting the messages to the clients and the customers. I think that if the managers take
decisions without consulting the employees and the other staffs, it reflects the attitudinal
barriers, broadening the gap between the employees and the managers. I have also learnt that
use of jargons creates difficulties among the employees regarding decoding the messages.
This difficulty, further, is an issue in terms of executing the tasks.
I can also highlight the cultural issues within the communication. One of the main
aspects is that of that the people from other cultures feel it difficult to speak foreign
languages. I feel that training is needed for making the employees accustomed to the native
culture. Language training is crucial for assisting them to gain fluency in foreign language
courses. I think organizing group discussions among the native and foreign employees is

beneficial for enhancing mutual understanding between the employees. According to me, this
is a planned and reasoned approach towards enhancing the unity and coordination, which is
needed for exposing team work needed for completing the tasks according to the
requirements.
I think communication skills are crucial for measuring the competency of the people
towards the issues, taking place in their surroundings. Indulging in interactions help in
gaining an insight into the scope and arena in which the expressions of the people venture.
According to my observations, one to one sessions are productive means for gaining an
insight into the issues, which the people face. Moreover, I can also say that this means of
communication is ethical, in terms of preventing the issue of commercializing the personal
sentiments of the people. Here, I think consent is important as it helps in gaining respect, trust
and dependence from others. Rationality in the choice of language is the identification mark
for the personality one bears. Here, I can say that the words one spoken, cannot be taken
aback, so the people need to be conscious while communicating with others. This rationality
would be the key towards enhancing the leadership skills, competencies and abilities.
Evaluating the performance is effective in terms of detecting the areas for improving.
