COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT PLAN
The contents of a communication management plan
A communication management plan is a document highlighting all the relevant information to be
used in a project management activity with the detailed logical procedures of how it will be
communicated to the target audience or project stakeholders. In other words, it defines what
communication will be delivered to a specific stakeholder in a given period using a definite
communication channel (Madsen et al. 2017, p.275).
A communication management plan include; an introduction, which is basically highlighting the
aims of the communication plan, the communication management approach to be used, the likely
constraints that may arise in communication management, the stakeholders’ communication
requirements, roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders. Furthermore, it constitutes the project team
directorate for guiding the communication, the possible communication methods, techniques and
technologies, communication flowchart, communication matrix, standards of communication, meeting
guidelines, the escalation process during communication and finally communication terminologies
contained in the glossary.
Can a stakeholder analysis assist in preparing and implementing parts of this plan?
Stakeholders analysis is an import variable to consider when organizing a communication plan.
This is because, the types of communication channels, and the likely constrains are based on the
stakeholders. The channels employed in communication are dependent on the project stakeholders. This
therefore implies that stakeholders’ analysis is an important determinant in organizing a communication
management plan (Papke and Boyer 2017, p.175)
Are there other stakeholders who can assist in preparing and implementing it?

COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT PLAN 3
During the drafting of a communication management plan, it is typically important to have a clear
background and valid information regarding the stakeholders to be involved in the project. it is therefore
vital to consult the stakeholder before drafting a communication management process and among the
stakeholders who could help in drafting include the project manager (Kerzner and Kerzner, 2017). The
implementation of a communication management plan is further undertaken by the project manager.

How the plan supports the project performance
Communication management plan is a tool for ensuring perfect communication during the project
execution. it is substantially true that one of the main reasons why most projects fail according to
empirical research is because of poor communication management plan. When relevant information is
ineffectively communicated, it may lead to project delay, breach of privacy terms, and project failures
among others. It is therefore archetypally true that effective communication management supports and
improves project performance (Ellis 2017).
