individual takes different kinds of tone for the communication. I may have not reached to this
position yet, but I am aspiring to get this communication skill in recent years.
Elaboration Likelihood Model: As per the theory, individuals tend to respond to the messages
in two types of paths. These two paths include elaboration path and peripheral path. In the
elaboration path, the individuals tend to possess reflective thinking, internalizing and have the
ability to process information. The thinking tends to be fair and objective in manner. I tend to use
the peripheral route so that the information overload does not happen today.
The Spiral of Silence: This theory states that the fear of isolation leads people to remain in
silent during the minority opinion and majority opinion. It happens irrespective of whether the
concerns are personal or philosophical. I do not follow this theory because I believe
communication should not involve silence.
Stage of Change Model: This theory has provided a different definition for the behaviour. The
behaviour is termed as the process, not as an event. The factors like motivation and readiness to
change has some varying levels for individuals. I often change their behaviour following the
situation, which they are dealing with.
Among all the communication theory the most important theory will be 7Cs communication
theory. This theory is also known as seven principles of communication. The seven principles of
the communication theory are explained below:
1. Completeness: The message which sends by the sender needs to be complete so that the
receiver can perceive the information. The words need to be supported by the facts. When
the sender is sending a complex message, then the sender needs to provide additional
information so that the receiver can relate the letter with the knowledge and perceive

conventionally. It can also be done by subdividing the information into fragmented parts
so that the receiver can get the complete overview of the message.
2. Concreteness: Concreteness of the message can be supported by factual data like graphs
or any analytical representation which provides the news with a concrete base so that the
receiver can easily understand the message.
3. Courtesy: The sender or the receiver needs to maintain the primary ethicists while
engaging in a conversation with the targeted group. It helps to create the most effective
communication.
4. Correctness: The correct use of language is necessary for sending the message to the
receiver so that the receiver can get a better idea about the word. The correctness will
also help to remove any ambiguines from the word. The correct use of the language can
transmit the trust and hence the relationship between the sender and the receiver
increases.
5. Clarity: The clarity in the language will help to characterize the explicitness. It increases
the concreteness of communication. It is advisable to use the formal expression for the
communication especially in the company.
6. Consideration: For communication, the sender must target the individual or the group
with whom the conversation need to be made. The communication system needs to be
changed following the group or individual.
7. Conciseness: When the sender provides the information to the receiver, it is imperative
to provide supplemental information, which will strengthen the report.
I mostly follow the 7Cs communication theory so that I can improve my
communication skill more. I adore the clarity and correctness part because I find, I

usually portray information which is more transparent and vivid. The conciseness and
consideration are the two most important part which I put more emphasis on it.
In my high school time, I have recognized my ability to communication skill.
During that time, my class teacher once recommends my name for the debate
competition. At first, I was not confident about my abilities, but at the same time, I did
not want to break the trust of my class teacher. I participated in the competition and even
secured second place in the game. In the competition, I was acknowledged because of my
convincing power and clarity in my communication. In that competition, I tend to present
every bit of information with factual and statistical data. In this way, I was able to
establish a clear idea in the mind of the receiver who happens to be the judge in that
competition.
The second time when I realize my strength was when I attempted for an
interview. In that interview, I am outspoken all other candidates who are present for the
meeting. I outsmart my fellow peers, especially in general discussion round and human
resource round. I used my communication skill to the fullest for convincing my
interview. The effort of mine helped me to crack the interview and fetch my first job.
During the meeting, I tend to gaze to my interviewer and tried to establish the trust. This
process also helped me to develop the idea of my high confidence level in the mind of the
interviewer.
To increase my communication skill, I also develop some of the extra skill which
help me to establish my communication skill in my skill set. The extra skills on which I
focused most of time are provided below:

7SELF-REFLECTION ON COMMUNICATION SKILL
1. Emotional Intelligence: It is the ability to understand the emotions of an
individual or the listener so that communication can develop more. It includes
the avoidance of the stress, overcoming the challenges and empathises with
others. Emotional Intelligence depends on the four-part strands. They are self-
awareness, social awareness, self-management and relationship management.
I concentrated on all these four strands and tried to develop my
communication skill with it.
2. Friendliness: I tend to keep the friendliness attitude with everyone with
whom I communicate. This attitude also helps me to mix with any group. I
usually personalize the message using the friendliness attitude of mine.
3. Empathy: It is one of the qualities which I developed so that I can horn my
communication skill. It comes handy when I tend to speak or communicate in
a group. If there is any disagreement in a group, then I tend to respect their
views and interact with the group to sort the problem.
4. Respect: I respect the views of my peers and my friends which help me to
understand my peers and friends more. The relationship seems to get stronger
when I started appreciating the views of my peers and friends.
5. Listening: Listening is also one of the critical factors which establish
communication skill. Excellent communication involves good listening. I tend
to pay attention to the receiver, which helps me to perceive the idea of my
speaker and I tend to throw well-formulated message backed by the data so
that my receiver can have a clarity of my message.

6. Tone of Voice: The tone of voice is said to be one of the essential factors
which decide the future of the communication. I usually keep my mood in a
medium degree so that the receiver can decode my message easily.
7. Asking Good Question: During any conversation, asking the right questions
is a sign that the listener is getting interested in the conversation. I always tend
to ask the open-ended question which in return also helps me to fetch a good
idea about the discussed topic.
During the workshop exercise, I was able to identify my weakness in my communication
skill. When I was completing the task in the workshop, I was more focused on the vocabulary
and structuring of the sentence. While conducting the provided mission I was able to
communicate with them. In spite of using a proper amount of vocab and adequate structure of
conviction, I was not able to grab the attention of my listener. After some analysis, I found out
that the main problem lies in non-verbal communication. The non-verbal communication is the
type of communication where the sender can perceive the idea whether the receiver has received
the message without any further obstacle. The non-verbal communication includes body
movement, listening skills and even the eye movement. As per many analysts, non-verbal
communication provides 60% of information to the sender of the message.
After analysing the weakness, I started to develop my fault by using different kinds of
technique which were suggested by my professors. Gradually I came to a point where I have
grasped the idea of non-verbal communication and tend to use it in my everyday communication
system. This effort not only helped me to develop my communication skill in my professional
life but it also helps me to build my personal life.

In my school days, I was selected as the announcer for an event. That was the first time I
got acquainted with the term called stage fear. That event was attended by all students of the
school, including the alumni of the school from different batches. When I first stepped on the
stage, I became very nervous about the situation because of the enormous crowd. While I was
speaking on the scene my legs were shivering. That was the first time I felt about my limited
knowledge about communication skill. However, I was able to withstand the situation and
overcome my fear gradually.
Communication skill has immense benefits in one’s career. It is the communication skill
which helps the individual to establishes a well-developed job in the long run. It happens because
it opens the door for an individual to directly communicate with the peers or the managers of the
company. It also comes handy for individuals who tend to apply for the job. Communication
skill becomes an asset for an individual, especially when the individual is working in a team. It
helps to encourage the group quickly. It helps to persuade others in the team. As per the skills set
which the organization wants in their employees includes communication skill, teamwork,
critical thinking and the analytical skill. Among all these, the communication skill (both written
and oral) is considered to be one of the most important among all. The individual who are
