Effective communication skills
An effective communication is basically the interaction between a single or more
individuals under which the message and information is successfully sent, received as well as
understood. Having the skills of actively interacting with others plays crucial part in the life of an
individual. Not only does the adult are required to communicate effectively for achieving success
but the children should also have the necessary skills which will eventually help them in their
growth (Austin and Pinkleton, 2015). The most important communication skills which the
students must have within them are:
Active listening
This is one of the most important skill which are required within the students for
achieving their goals as well as for their development. Active listening generally deals with
paying constant attention towards the individual speaking in front of them. Students who are the
active listeners tend to understand and learn the things more easily and quicker due to the sharp
focus. This skill sometimes becomes hard for the students to develop as they are likely to avoid
the things which seems boredom and irrelevant and thus hinders their learning ability. Thus, in
order to be an active listener, students must focus on the key speaker like their teachers and thus
avoid any kind of distractions and noise. Besides this, having the skills of an active listener
eventually helps the students to solve wide variety of complicated questions and analyse this
from different perspective. In this way, active listening is plays a great role and thus is the
significant skill which assist the students in strengthening their catching power.
Friendliness
Students have the common tendency of hesitating to interact with their teachers or with
their friends. Unlike adults, they develop a friendly nature very slowly and thus resist talking to
each other. In this context, friendliness is the most important skill which is required for excelling
in the academic work and thus stimulate the thought process. In friendship, the most important
characteristics are honesty and kindness which eventually builds trust as well as understanding.
Thus while working or studying with others, students should interact with them in a positive
attitude which will increase the understanding within them about the person in front of them.
Applying the small gestures like wishing good morning, smiling while the individual speaks will

ultimately foster the relationship of students with that person and thus will help them in their
growth. Student should have friendly nature in order to effectively communicate with their
teachers and friends and should understand them in an effective manner.
Empathy
Empathy normally means understanding others by stepping into their shoes. This is the
most important and remarkable communication skill which is highly essential for the students to
achieve success in future. Besides working in isolation, this skill also matters when the students
work in a team with others. In both the situation, students should have the feeling of empathy in
the sense that they need to interpret and understand the emotions of other members of the team
and then respond accordingly (Fan and et.al.,2015). For example when a team of students are
working on a group project then understanding the contribution of every member swell as their
feelings becomes important for all the students in order to effectively deliver that project. Thus,
the skill of empathy enables the students to resolve conflict with each other and thus improve
their relationship with other students.
Respect
This is the another communication skill which is highly significant for the students and
thus will helps them effectively in interacting with one another and growing their future. Respect
means having the understanding of when to start the conversation as well as respond. This also
means actively listening to other person and using their time wisely. Students should respectfully
allow others while working in a team to speak and avoid any interruption (Greenaway and
et.al.,2015). This at the end reflects their respect for the key speaker and thus results in effective
communication and fast learning. Besides this, the students should be aware of when to begin
then conversation and should respect the thoughts of the another person while the
communication is going on. This skill is highly essential for the students as they comes across
various problems whether related to their subject or nit thus respectfully listening to the teachers
and asking the relevant questions will help them to solve their issue sand thus will lead to greater
learning.
Personal reflection
While studying in the school and performing various activities, I have improved my
communication skills which eventually enhanced my performance, behaviour as well as
experience. Through the active listening skill, I was able to understand the basics of my subject

as well as the various aspects other course which ultimately increased my knowledge base and
thus the performance level in exams (Thompson, 2018). This also inculcated a positive
behaviour in me and allowed me to listen to other's perspective with a positive attitude. My
behaviour took the positive shape and thus enabled me solve the problems with more
enthusiasm. This active listening also increased my experience level and allowed to handle the
complex situation which seems difficult to me. Another skill that is friendliness also posed a
huge impact on my performance level. Due to interacting with my friends and other, a sense of
trust as well as understanding built within me and I begin to ask the problems with other which
eventually helped me to excel good marks. This friendliness also changed my behaviour from
being sceptical towards every person and aspect to trusting others and respecting them. This skill
enabled me to understand others and thus fostered the relationship with others. This also
enhanced my experience level as by better relationship I was able to grab knowledge form the on
various matters. This increased my mental experience towards various issues. The most
important skill that is empathy helped me understand the feelings of others and thus enhanced
my performance level (Bourne, 2016). I was able to understand the perspective of team members
while Woking on a project which enabled me deliver the task successfully. Besides this, this
incorporated a positive behaviour in me as I was able to sense the conditions of others. I was able
to show meaningful behaviour towards their problem and helped them in solving.
