Communication skills refer to the ability of an individual to share ideas, convey and
feelings effectively. For the stated skill involvement of speaking, listening, empathizing and
observing. Under the concept effective basis of personal as well as professional-life standards are
being established (Tan and Laswad, 2018).
Importance of communication skill
It is being believed that learning communication skills stay at the topmost priority for an
individual that paths development of other key skills. Development of this skill develops critical
pathways for a student to excel in their career and engage with building a good network in the
learning institutions that facilitate the betterment of career-oriented goals and objectives.
Development of communication skills. There is various importance of communication skills to
an individual student, some of these are as follows;
Correct body language: Through the development of effective communication skills an
individual can ensure appropriate body language. As being in the process, an individual is
able to display a true sense of the nature of conversation or information to another
individual or a group.
Improvement in the presence of mind: While engaging with effective communication
skills, an individual can develop a good presence of mind. Having a good presence of
mind always helps an individual to approach their career towards the right direction of
working. In addition to this, any career development opportunity can be tapped being at
the right time and place.
Quality of being friendly: When a student is engaged with the development of effective
communication skills, a positive working environment can be established. This can be in

accordance with working with properly communicated tasks and directing productive
efforts in respect to the completion of an assigned task (Tatari and Gholamian, 2021).
Ways through which communication skills can be improved
Communication skill is one of the most important skills to approach personal as well as
professional career goals. Taking note of respective skill’s importance, there are several ways
through which communication skill of a student can be improved are as follows;
Motivating students to engage in conversations: In this first element, mentors or
teachers in the learning institute can motivate students to learn communication skills.
Under the program, several group tasks can be arranged that favours the development of
communication skills. In the process being students pursuing higher education will be
engaged in group tasks for which through communication effective distribution of group
activity can proceed and desired end results can be obtained.
Active listening: Another method for which effective communication skills can be
developed is in accordance with active listening. In light of the fact that effective
listening is a must for effective speaking thus, forms part of better communication at the
workplace. In this element, education authorities should arrange respective platforms to
prepare students in reflection to active listening.
Positive feedback: Through providing positive feedback, students can perform better in
all relative fields of work. For the given method engagement between learners and
teachers. This will provide an effective basis for the development of communication
skills and will secure a platform to build on students’ supportive ambition, confidence
and create good harmony (Uleanya and et. al., 2020).
Self-reflection on the development of communication skills
When working in a group effective communication plays a vital role in ensuring the
completion of group tasks at the desired deadline maintaining appropriate standards of workings.
In the process being aims and objectives of a group task is being effectively communicated in the
group and wastages of resources can be avoided. In addition to this, a sense of a positive working
environment can be established with respect to the working organisation and deliver productive
outcomes (Muharib and et. al., 2019).
In my context, collaborating with my peers during this module has helped me develop
effective communication skills. This was done through participating in each group task allotted

to me with my group members and ensuring the completion of the task with appropriate quality

which I have researched specific concepts or topics and display my learnings in writing.
Furthermore, the process being engagement with group members were being developed in
accordance with coordinating daily task and updating on preferences. This engaged my activities
with other group members for the development of communication skills which developed my
capabilities in shaping my personal as well as professional skills in directions to attain desired
career goals and objectives (Kelly, O’Malley and Antonijevic, 2018).
Conclusion
From the analysis of the above report document, it can be concluded that communication
plays a vital role in supporting the personal as well as professional development of an individual.
