Justification
Communication is a key factor in the operation of day to day activities. In the creation of
this paper, communication was utilized in that various skills of communication were applied.
Listening and verbal communication are major elements of communication where skills acquired
in both areas were effectively used in creation of this paper. In presentation of a project proposal,
I effectively used opening communication and closing communication to attract the attention of
my audience as well as indicated the end. Summarising is also a communication skill I utilized in
the presentation where I gave a brief overview of the entire presentation where the audience was
able to reflect on the whole proposal.
In this academic paper, reading skills were also applied in the reviewing articles and
journals. In the establishment of annotated bibliographies, reading skills were effective in the
understanding of the articles. With good reading skills, one is able to participate both physically
and intellectually. Through various group discussions, teamwork skills were applied and as a
student I learned the advantages of working as a team. In this paper teamwork skills such as
avoiding unnecessary interruptions were applied in group discussions and field research to
determine various trends in 3D printing as well as Information and Communication
Technologies.
By understanding listening, reading and teamwork skills, ethics in communication are
developed. In group discussions, one comes together with various individuals in order to come
up with a similar conclusion. The groups comprise of individuals from different backgrounds
hence diversity is achieved. By understanding and accepting the various cultures and beliefs of
individuals from different cultures, one is able to communicate and work together with them in
harmony.

passing of information which adds more knowledge to the IT personnel. Active reading also
involves the reader’s participation emotionally and intellectually in order to interpret written or
printed symbols hence equipping the reader with other secondary skills such as critical thinking.
In the profession, active reading enables the reader to interact with great minds hence acquiring
more proficiency in their career.
Listening is also very important for an IT profession as it involves: selective attention,
sensorial involvement, comprehension and retention. Listening helps create a better relationship
at workplaces aiding more productivity in the firms. Moreover, it aids in distinguishing between
characteristics of content and delivery that ought to be emulated and that which should be
avoided. It is also very essential in communicating to other workmates since one is able to
deliver the correct context of data while he or she is needed to. Listening also adds funds of

knowledge to the IT professionals as it updates them with collection of facts, attitudes and beliefs
of values since people learn when they learn to listen to others.
Effective interpersonal communication can also be highlighted as very essential to the IT
profession. This is because it involves relaying of information from a person to another through a
particular channel. Effective communication enables fast transmission of reliable information for
the professionals. Since data relayed is passed through effectively with very minimal barriers. It
also creates an outstanding relationship between people working in a given firm increasing
productivity. The sender, encoding process, message, channel, receiver, decoding and feedback
play as major principles of effective interpersonal communication.
