NURSING COMMUNICATION
Discussion post on communication skills
Last week, in the team meeting for our upcoming project presentation, I was assigned to
research on the topic of employee retention at workplace. Being a team leader, I had to put
forward some ideas in order to narrow down the topic. Poor workplace communication can
hamper the exact information that needs to be delivered to the peers (Rouse & Al‐Maqbali,
2014). It should be mentioned that prolonged meetings often turns out to be boring hence the
speaker should possess good speaking and convincing the skills to keep the team members
attentive to the meeting. Hence, leaders or managers should use tactics to make the team
members more attentive to the meeting (Zulch, 2014).
When I was going through the databases searching for relevant information about out
topic, I came across several articles burdened with academic jargoned words, but I made it sure,
that while discussing about those articles in the midst of about 10 team members, I used simple
languages such that the contents can be comprehended easily. While, I was discussing about our
project, I ensured that I give ample time to my peers to express their opinion and to cross
question me. In order to evaluate my communication skills, I requested one of my seniors to
attend the meeting for giving a feedback. After the meeting, I distributed a feedback form to my
peers, containing questions like :-
Did you find this meeting useful?
Are the contents discussed fully?
Is the communication skill of the team leader up to the mark?
Do you find the language easy to understand?

NURSING COMMUNICATION
Based on the feedback obtained, one of the weaknesses that I have realized is that, I should talk a
bit slowly and loudly when I am speaking to a team as the approach shows confidence of the
speaker. Again people might interpret fast talking to be a sign of nervousness or a lack of self-
esteem.
