Nonverbal communication- Nonverbal communication is the type of communication where facial
expressions, gestures and paralinguistic approaches are used. The characteristics/ features of non-verbal
communication are pitch, volume, rate, quality and intonation.
Verbal communication- verbal communication involves face to face or public interaction which allows
communicator to exchange ideas back and forth freely.
Oral communication allows an individual to express emotions, ideas and feelings and allows people to
share knowledge and traditions as well and builds self-esteem. The characteristic of oral communication
is flexible, offers immediate feedback, offers opportunity for correction, dependence on listening and can
also bring intercultural barriers.
Written communication, the need of communication is to transfer a certain level of knowledge or
information.

Formal communication- In this mode of communication the
information or the knowledge is shared from one place to another
through various proper channels/routes. It can be also called as
official communication as is mostly used in offices/ business/
formal meetings, etc.
Informal communication- In this mode of communication there is

grapevine communication, as the flow of information is not
channelized in any particular direction.
