INTRODUCTION
Mr. Fishy is a restaurant which is located in Borough near London. The restaurant has
staff of 20 employees which work on full time and part time basis. The study will details the
challenges and barriers which impacts the effective communication. And also the report will give
detail about how the employees of different culture , age groups cause conflicts in the Mr. Fishy
restaurant. Further the report will give strategies which help in over coming communication
barrier at workplace(Adler and et.al., 2016). And how the culture awareness influence
communication and negotiations.
TASK
LO 2 Common challenges and barriers in effective communication.
There are various challenges and barriers with impacts the effective communication these
includes cultural differences, language differences, lack of attention, expectations and prejudice,
differences in view point etc.
Challenges and barriers are as follows-
Cultural Differences
Different cultures have different meaning of words, behaviour and gestures. When people
belonging to different cultures communicate these factors become barriers(Barnlund, 2017). So
when people from different cultures work together in a Mr. Fishy restaurants problem arises as
different people have different thinking and work according to that so this creates barriers in
communication. Employees are recruited in Mr. Fishy restaurants work together but they have
different goals and expectation this creates conflict. As employees are not satisfied they will
leave the restaurants and this will result in loss. As there is possibility of Brexit, Britain is been
out of the European union so this will be a loss to Mr. Fishy restaurant and creates conflicts
(Bonvillain, 2019).
Language differences
In Mr. Fishy restaurant the employees are recruited from different places and the
language spoken by them is also different so it is not easier to understand the language and
respond to that. So this impacts the working of the organisation as exchange of information and
ideas is difficult and this sometimes creates conflict between the employees in the Mr. Fishy
restaurant(Burgoon and et.al., 2016).
Lack of attention

Lack of attention creates barrier in communication as when two persons are interacting
the other person may be busy with some other work so he/she will nor listen or responds to the
message attentively. So when there is lack of attention the employees can not communicate
effectively and this creates hurdles in communication in Mr. Fishy restaurant(Communication

LO 3 Strategies to overcome barriers in communication.
Communication can be defining as the process which can be used by people to exchange
information to one another. (Giles and et.al., 2015). Communication can be written and oral. It
must be done in a way that the listener is abke There are various strategies to overcome barriers
in communication. The strategies are as follows.
Be aware of language, tone and content of message
The employers must be engage in using only that language which is understandable by
the employee. The message must be encoded in such a way that it does not hurt the feeling of .
Various language translator apps can be used to convey the message as it will solve the problem
of language barrier. (Habermas, 2015). And the message framed should be in brief so that it is
easier to understand.
Eliminating differences in perception
Mr. Fishy should ensure that they are engaged in hiring those employees which are
efficient in their working, so that in future there will be no conflict in communication. As by
effective communication better relations between the British and non British staff can be
created(Mongeau and et.al., 2016).
Proper media selection
Organization must also be engage in selecting proper media so that they communicate
their strategy well to employees(Hansen, 2018). To solve the problem of communication in Mr.
Fishy restaurant use of written means should be encouraged for delivering complex
message(Neuliep, 2017).
Simple organisation structure
Mr. Fishy must be engaged in following an organization structure that is understandable
and easy to work upon. (Mehrabian, 2017). Organization must make sure that the roles and
responsibility of each employees are being given properly. There is no confusion. Thus, simpler

the organisational structure, more effective will be the communication. This assist in solving
the conflicts between British and non British staffs(McCroskey, 2015).
LO 6 Cultural awareness influences communication and negotiation.
Culture influence how people communicate, both verbally and non verbally or directly
and indirectly. Cultural awareness in business involves preparing and learning about the different
cultures with which the business interacts. As in Mr. Fishy restaurant has both British and non
British employees so they have dissimilar language and viewpoints. The workers are affected by
prejudice and emotional barrier affects the mental health of the employee(Lamenza and et.al.,
2017). These activity can be stopped by removing slang language and learning language of
others will eliminate this problem. As when people from different places are appointed in Mr.
Fishy restaurant they have different culture which impacts the communication styles. So lack of
awareness of culture lead to bad or poor decisions. Awareness of culture helps in removing
language barrier. As different language has different meaning of words so in understanding that
culture awareness is helpful. Culture awareness helps in reducing the chances of making bad
decisions and increase the chance of making more insightful and considered decisions(Holliday
and et.al., 2016).
CONCLUSION
From the above study it can be concluded that there are challenges and barriers in
effective communication. And because of these barriers the effective communication between
the employees is not there. The challenges are cultural differences as by people from different
culture have different language and perception. So this impacts the communication. So to
overcome these barriers various strategies are created these strategies helps in solving the
conflicts between the employees of Mr. Fishy restaurant as there is a sense situation between
British and non British staff. Further the report will demonstrate about that how cultural
awareness influence communication and negotiation.
