INTRODUCTION
Business communication refer to the share of idea, opinion, knowledge within or outside
the enterprises in order to carry out business activity smoothly (Toth, 2013). It also encourages
the potential consumer to bing the long term relationship by increasing the sales of company. For
better understanding Sports Love company has been selected which is situated in London and
deals in sports products. This report cover following topic such as common barrier and
challenges to communication. Further, emphasize on strategies that help to overcome
communication barrier and insights related to culture influence communication.
TASK 1
Barrier and challenges to communication
Barrier to communication: As effective communication within the workplace helps in
strengthening relation between the employees as well as employer of organisation. But there are
various organisation such as Sports love which lack in communication due to which personnel
finds difficulty in achieving their target. Other than communication gap there are several type of
common challenges faced by respective company which are defined below:
Culture barrier: People who belong to different culture has their own belief, dressing
sense, likings, religion and so on (Waldeck, et.al., 2012). In context to Sports Love which works
in three shift due to which they recruit people of different country. Additionally, it is not
necessary that their first language is English due to which it act as a challenge of communication
while conveying and interpreting the information.
Organisation barrier: There may arises various constraint within the communication of
organisation such as lack of transparency. Herein, Sports Love company which remain functional
for 18 hours in three different shifts due to which the management remain less interested while
interacting with staff. Along with that staff hardly gets the feedback of their performances which
is hampering the relation of organisation with their ultimate consumer.
Selective perception barrier: As each member have their own perception due to which
message is decoded based on the understanding level of an individual. In such case role of
manger plays a vital role in shaping the experience or behaviour of employee towards
organisation. But such interaction between manager and staff lacks in Sports love company
which can affect the productivity of profitability of company.

Strategies to overcome communication barrier
Organisation must develop effective strategy or take wise precautions in order to
overcome the barrier. Thus, Sports Love have adopted various methods that are defined below:
Provide feedback to the internal staff: The manager of Sports Love should deliver
constructive feedback regarding the performance of employee. This not only minimise the
chances of barrier but also help the company to achieve better output (Mai and Hoffmann, 2014).
Control differences in perception: Though the employees of selected company belongs
to different countries because of which their first language is not English. Thus, the HR manager
while recruiting the candidate must make sure the employee should understand and speak
English as well. This will reduces the chances of communication gap. Along with that training
must be provided to existing staff of company.
Organisation structure: As the organisation structure of Sports Love is simple but still
there arises problem of communication gap between management ass staff. Thus, proper
department as such HR department must interact with the employee on daily basis. This helps to
increase in transparency with the company due to which even employee will remain more keen
to achieve organisational objective successfully.

With the diversity in culture the experience, perception as well as behaviour of each and
every individual differ from one to another. Due to these variation culture of an individual plays
a vital role in shaping the communication style. Moreover, due to globalisation the company's are
hiring people from different cultural background causing a hub of diverse people. Thus, it has
negatively affect the operations of business as whether the business adopt oral communication or
written communication but due to different understanding level of people the effectiveness of
commination may not be achieved. In context to Sports Love the routine task are defined to the
people belong from different culture but the higher level of manger does not consider opinion of
employee. Further, they neither give them feedback because of different language, prejudice
views or understanding. Thus, culture barrier within the selected company has lead to switching
of customer by decreasing the sales of company (Moshiri and Cardon, 2014).
