BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
Effective communication is defined as verbal speech and nonverbal methods of
conveying significance information that get a point across. It helps to foster good
professional relationship between manager and its staff members, which turn improve
efficiency & morale. Certain barriers and challenges impact on effective
communication procedure.
Barriers & challenges to effective communication-
Language barriers-
Linguistic and language capability when communicating in similar language,
terminology used in message act as barrier, when it is not understood by another
person. Message that include a lot of abbreviations as well as expert jargon will not
be understood by message receiver, who is not aware with terminology used.
Differences between language, is considered as one of the biggest barriers to effective
communication, that create challenge for person to communicate to other people at
different place of work.
Attitudinal barriers-
It is perceptions and behaviours that avert people from communicating
effectively. Attitudinal barrier to effective communication result from poor
management, personal issues and resistance to change.
Physical barriers-
Geographic Distance between message provider and receiver is the best
example of physical barrier to good communication. Longer term distance between
two people create challenge for them to communicate and interact with each other,
they cannot be able to share information effectively as it develops misunderstanding
between both of them.
Strategies for overcoming communication barriers –
In order to overcome language barrier to effective
communication, person need to use easy language while communicating
to other people at workplace. They have to understand different
languages, which makes their work easier as they can be able to
communicate with everyone.
Modern technology helps to reduce the impact of physical
barrier, to effective communication. With the help of using appropriate
communication tools, person will be able to interact with all the
members in team efficiently.
Receivers of message will attempt to overcome attitudinal
barriers that help to facilitate good communication.
Active listening is the best way to effective communication, it
helps person to understand actual meaning of every word, spoken by
other people. It is totally focusing on what is being said more than just
hearing, information of speaker.
People can use simple language while communicating in
professional and personal career. It is very essential to consider people
that individual speaking to and use terminology that is easily
