Why is cultural awareness important?
To build cultural bridges: The modern generation has to develop positive relations with one
another by adapting with time and exchange information, ideas, be open to exposure and create a
culture of shared meanings, learning the best from each other.
To become global citizens: Being aware about other cultures is the first step to become global
citizens and transcend the ideas and identity across borders and gain knowledge about the world
as a whole by exploring other’s point of views, being open and broad minded with exploring and
learning perspective.
To break cultural barriers: In this world where there are so many barriers and prejudices, and
stereotypes, it is important that modern students learn to break such barriers and develop

Dissatisfaction in any form in the university: Students face dissatisfaction related to
the physical workspace and infrastructure like the issues of Wi-Fi, noises around the

expressing their viewpoints to the institutional authorities as we strive to become more
transparent in our operations.

boundaries in communication (Kapur, 2018).

Ensuring proper feedback: Apart from face to face communication where the facial
reactions can imply the feedback, written form of communication should aim at
undergoing the feedback from the receiver.
Verbal and non-verbal communication: Limiting distractions, participating in public
speaking classes, acknowledging what others say, practice empathy. Improving the body
language, working on posture and tone of voice, maintaining eye contact.
Be cross-culturally sensitive: increase cultural awareness and not act or communicate
on stereotypes and offensive language (Butchibabu and et.al., 2016).
The importance of cultural awareness
Culture is like an iceberg and contains many unseen elements like values and beliefs
which are highly complex to understand but has a huge impact on the decision-making and
communication. Cultural awareness helps in reducing the barriers to ineffectiveness and makes a
person broad minded, knowledgeable about the world as a whole and more insightful. In addition
to this, cultural awareness is needed to learn the proper business etiquette, to manage personal
introductions as per the culture, learn about things that are acceptable in various social situations
and the fact that all people have different beliefs and values (Putri, 2019).
