Different cultural practices
Common challenges and barriers to communication
Different cultural practices- Different region practices different
cultural practices, have different values and ethics. Cultural diversity
can sometimes create a barrier into communication. As in case with
Go Travel, the staff did face problems with language and cultural
misunderstanding which affected the company.
Language used- Languages differ from places to places. Every country
has its own language to speak. Person belonging to different region or
country might got different language to speak as compared to others.
This may create a feeling of “left alone” in him which might not be
good for both the employee and organisation. With Go travel, the same
had happen. The staff members did not contact to other offices staff
because they feel insecure about their language ability and cultural
misunderstandings.

Strategies for overcoming communication barrier
Common contact timing Better relation
Common Contact timing- Offices which operate also overseas
performs work according to the time zone of their own country.
Therefore, to coordinate between them both the offices has to settle
upon a common ground to eliminate such barrier. The same case
happened with Go travel where the office located overseas could not
able to communicate properly with them because of the difference in
their time zone. So therefore, both the offices should settle on a
common time to communicate with each other. This will create
effective communication and smooth functioning of their operations.
Better relation- The company should encourage good and better terms
with other overseas office for effective communication. The company
should take initiative to clear all such grievances and encourage better
relation. This can be done when any person from the head office
speaks the language which the people of oversea office speaks. This
can help in improving the communication between the offices and can
improve business performance.

Cultural awareness in communication and Negotiation
Misunderstanding in languages and failure to make it properly
understandable can create more barriers and gap which may lead to the
development of ill feeling among the involved parties. This can get
solve by making people understand and properly listen to them their
viewpoints or opinions. By listening and understanding properly, the
barriers or grievances can get less and helps in developing good
relations.
Although now a day’s companies are adapting cultural diversity in
their work place to enhance the cultural environment. But this cultural
diversity has its own demerit also. Diverse people has diverse cultural
practices and language is one among them. It can be possible that
language can become a barrier for the organisation.
