Communication is the art of conveying a message to one person to
another person. It is the action that has been performed by one
person to another person in the form of exchanging of thoughts and
messages or information. In this present report communication in
health and social care has been discussed.

Communication theories in health and social
care organisation
In respect of health and social care organization, effective
communication is must as there are many operations that need to be
performed in an effective manner. Communication is a process in
which the employees and workers of the organization conveys
information and message to each other. It is needed by a social care
organization that there should be an effective communication so that
patients do not face any issues.

Classical conditioning theory :-
Classical conditioning theory is one of the learning theory in
which there is creation of association among naturally
existing stimulus and a past neutral stimuli which means
this theory shows the reaction of a particular stimuli in
response to other thing. According to the this theory in the
context of the health care, the employees learn through
natural sources and practices. In the context of the theory it
has been said that proper treatment should be done of the
patients. It can be seen that in an should be treated in the
respect of this theory.

Operant conditioning theory:-
Operant conditioning theory is another type of learning theory
which is somehow similar to classical theory it means that
operant conditioning simply describe the reaction of a
person or an individual in response to action of other
person. In health organization, the employees are required
to apply this theory as they want to analyse the reaction of
the patients admitted in their health and social care.

In the given scenario, a woman of age 35 years , woke up with
various internal disorders. No staff came and helped her. When
Anna saw a doctor he asked for help but doctor was continuously
accusing her for drinking alcohol. Also, Paul , husband of Anna
requested the doctor tom check and examine her wife. After being
discharged from the treatment , the couple went to general
practitioner.

Effective communication skills are used to coordinate with workers
so that patients can be served in a best way. There are several ways
in which communication can be effected in the health and social
care.

 Verbal communication: It is the best way of communicating
with another person. It is done through the usage of words. It
can be in the form of oral along with written form. It is the
duty of employees that they should use different languages
according to the patients.
 Non verbal communication: This style of communication
involves use of gestures, body language expressions etc. It
means that the care workers and employees should make sure
that there should be good expressions and gestures should be
adopted while communicating with the patients so that there
can not be any issues and conflicts.

communication
Interpersonal communication : It is the method in which the people
can share ,exchange there feeling and information with the other .It
is two way communication between the parties.
As seen in the mentioned case study that there is inappropriate
communication between the doctor and her husband Mr Paul
because of the wrong choice of situation of his wife and
misinterpretation of the body language at that point of time.

There should be effective communication to enable the users of

are proposed for them. For making an accurate decision related to
the users health there should be proper communication of services
to the users. For effective and efficient communication there should
