Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment provides an analysis of communication theories and models, focusing on their application within a business context. It specifically examines the Shannon-Weaver model, also known as the information theory, and the Transactional model of communication, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses in conveying messages effectively. The assignment brief outlines the importance of clear communication in business, emphasizing both oral and written skills. The solution demonstrates an understanding of how these models contribute to effective communication within an organization and how they can be applied to improve working relationships with staff and clients. Shannon and weave
This theory depicts a mechanical communication theory, also termed as information theory
and is based on a conceptual model consisting of an information source, a transmitter,
receiver and destination. In between, there together exists a source of noise among the
transmitter and receiver that controls the signal and the quality of the message. Although, it is
not considered to be an effective model for one- way transmission and not having any
loop of feedback. But, it is also beneficial in terms of detecting noises.

Transactional model of communication
This particular theory of communication proposed by
Barnlund has defined a reciprocal system of communication
in which people interactively communicate with one another.
It basically states the procedure of giving and receiving
messages with minimum 2 communicators known as
sender and receiver. As a result, to which, both the effects
and the effectiveness of communication depends upon the
correspondents. In accordance to this theory, it is important
for the communicators to create a shared meaning of their
messages. This theory has together proposed 2
behavioural cues for both oral and written forms of
communication. In which, the environmental and noise are
referred to be a part of the shared message. As per
Barnlund’s transactional theory of communication, there
exists 2 distinct type of communication namely interpersonal
and intrapersonal. The former one involves encoding and
decoding among oneself in contradiction to another one that
includes the same procedure with one another. Apart from
this, Barnlund also formed 7 different hypothesises of
communication, also termed as postulates.
