Discuss some general theories of organisational communication.
Organisational communication is defined as the channels of communication used by the
organisation in order to interact with all the members. There is need of formal communication in
the organisation so that there is proper relationship among the employees and employers in the
company. The theories of organisational communication are as follows:
Bureaucracy Theory: This theory was given by German sociologist Max Weber. It states
that there is a formal structure that is followed by the company. This means that the employees in
the organisation get order from one member who is above them and report to the same person
(Kalogiannidis and Papaevangelou, 2020). They have to follow a hierarchy of communication
that is being followed by them. The employees cannot interact directly with the higher authority
and have to take permission from the senior. This theory helps to keep control on the working
employees and guide them properly. The messages ae communicated in suitable manner.
Theory X and Theory Y: The theory comes from Human Resources School that says that
proper communication helps to bring motivation among the employees. There is key role of
motivating the employees so that they are able to manage the work and provide innovative ideas
to carry on the work. It also states that the ability to control self assists in promoting creativity.
The employees are greatest assets of the company and there is requirement of motivating so that
there are innovative ideas given by them while working the organisation. The ideas of employees
must be communicated and heard so that they are ready to take necessary actions. The rewards
are important for the employees and to achieve organisational objective.

Functional Approach to Corporate Culture: There is key role of communication in

information with them it becomes easy to carry on the work in the company. The use of proper
decision making with communication is necessary to bring best culture in the organisation
(Garcia-Sanchez and et.al., 2020). In order to keep the employees working effectively and there
is need of communicating with the employees. They are able to function in appropriate manner
and maintain effective conditions in the company.
The Speech-Act Theory & the Learning Organization: This theory is developed upon
the belief that human existence is defined as the ability to coordinate with communication. The
employees in a company are able to learn from each other and address the challenges by
interacting with each other. The learning is organisation is a continuous process and is processed
and supported by the regular communication. It is essential to have conversation with the
employees so that better decision making is done. All the stakeholders are able to know about the
organisation with the help of communication. The reality of the company is being told to
stakeholders as they are also interested in the information to the company.
