Introduction
Often when people talk about the future of the work place, they focus on how fast the
things are changing and how the technology is taking the place of everything. Such a fast
paced digital transformation is demanding an equally rapid human transformation and this in
turn is demanding reward up-skilling, flexibility and are all driven by a purpose (Kane et al.,
2015). However, nowhere is advancement more significant and more prevalent in this current
society than in the field of communication. The means of communication were very different
just few years back as compared to what is taking place today. These changes have also
influenced the business communication. This reflective report is going to elaborate on
presenting a brief on the different trends or skills (DRSINVAI) that I would like to see in my
current or future workplace.
Discussion
The potential of evolving and adapting is one of the significant characteristics of the
forward-thinking firms and it encompasses the skill of communication as well (Skinner,
Smith & Swanson, 2018). In order to stay competitive in the current business market, we
need to evolve with and at the same time, embrace the changing times. In order to improve
and enhance the communication in my current or future workplace, I would like to see
several trends there.
D- Digital workspaces
The very first change that I would like to see is that of a collaborative digital
workspaces. Most of the successful companies today recognise that teamwork is a key
component that has led them towards their success today. The traditional spaces that most of
the companies use today should be replaced with collaborative digital workspaces.

As per the very recent report of 2018, a survey conducted among 50 employees
working in different sectors, 53% of the total respondents saw significant improvements in
the field of mobile workforce effectiveness because of the digital workspace initiatives
(Attaran, Attaran & Kirkland, 2019). Also, about 52% of the respondents agreed on the fact
that they a significant increase in user satisfaction among the IT. Hence, collaborative digital
workspace is likely to subsume a social component for fostering innovation and interaction in
my future workplace. However, this need to be fuelled up by creativity, good working
processes, sense of collaboration and community and by the diversification of thoughts.
Notwithstanding this fact, I would like to have small digital workspaces as large spaces are
likely to make the small groups feel uncomfortable and would also limit the effective internal
communication. If we go for smaller ones, then we can ensure that each and every employees
are comfortably creating and sharing contents and at the same time, having meaningful and
productive discussions.
R- Robust mobile devices
I think in recent years, one of the most effective and biggest business communication
trends is the power that mobile devices hold. Mobile devices have rapidly changed the

business world for the betterment, which is quite similar to what computers did in the
beginning of eighties. Smartphones are more powerful than the computers today and it has
created a wide range of opportunities for the businesses of both current and future years.

Along with the help of mobile intranet software, it is no longer important for today’s
employees to be glued to their desks in order to get things done. They can just log in through
their tablets and smartphones and get an easy access to the company dates and at the same
time, update the rest of their team members on their improvement and progress as well. Also,
90% of today’s companies have increased their mobile application investments as they too
have recognised its importance for their business Ascarza et al. (2018). Hence, I would like to
see the same in my future workplace as well. Along with the “bring-your-own-device”
initiative in the place, I can easily be establishing better internal communication in my
workplace. With the same, this will also enable me to use my personal devices at the
workplace and become more efficient.
S- Seamless technology integration
Ability of moving data and conversations from one platform to other is very often
seen these days. I want all my devices contain all about my business related conversations.
For this, I would like to see the “bring-your-own-device” initiative in my future workplace.

There are some companies like Microsoft and Google that do encourage their employees to
make their personal devices their life and work companions (Varghese, 2018). This helps in
reducing the friction in between our life and work. With the same, the communication
process of the company is also highly improved with this process.

I myself have observed that people respond better to the visual information as
compared to texts. In fact, several scholars have claimed the same. As per Dietze and
Knowles (2016), “people are visual beings and they process visuals 60,000 times faster than
plain text, making visual content a lot more popular than textual information”. Hence, I
would like to see that my future workplace have influx of different online tools that would
enable the business creating some engaging visual imagery for communicating their
messages in more effective way. I personally believe that through infographics, one can
effectively explain a process to the employees and there are several different online tools and
applications available which could help in designing and creating them at low cost.

AI- Entry of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the workplace

We can already see the entry of Artifical Intelligence in the customer service
department of most of the companies that have self-service solutions and robots. Customers
in the near future would have increasing expectations of speaking or interacting with the
technology prior to they interact with any human, though they would not be that forgiving to

the errors made by them. Observing this to be an increasing demand, I would like to see the
same in my workplace too. I want my future workplace to have carefully programmed and
well-designed bots all around the en-users as well as their needs and requirements.
Conclusion
Predicting our future is always a very risky task but it is also perilous for us to do so
as we live in the year 2019 and venture into new coming years. Although, in some of the
business communications, trends might change along with the change in the future
technologies but I think the above mentioned trends are likely to stick around for years. These
trends are likely to be in the place in our future workplace and if not, I would like to see them
in my future workplace at least in order to give my best to my job role and to enhance the
business.
