Sociology Report: Analyzing Climate Change Impact in Santo Domingo

The objective of this research is to identify the impact of a community and its population over a
place, its climate and its sustainability. My community is Santo Domingo in the Dominican
Republic, which acquires a very significant space and affects the environment and its
sustainability at high level.
 The impact me and the community have on environment and climate
The impact, the Santo Domingo community and me have on the environment and
climate is quite negative due to the increasing level of pollution in the capital. People in
the city have become less conscious of protecting the natural beauty of the city. The
callous attitude of the community towards climate change is costing the life of people in
the country due to droughts and frequent hurricanes. On one hand, the irresponsibility of
the citizens are affecting the climate negatively in number of ways while on the other
hand, some of the community members are coming forward with sustainable ideas such
as indoor plants, and sustainable vehicles are positively affecting the nation (Bolton,
2015).
 The impact of climate change experienced in present and future
The impact that Santo Domingo community and me are experiencing of climate
change is increase in the temperature and frequent droughts that are affecting the
vegetables and fruits cultivation in number of ways. Due to increased number of
population, and their impact over the climate many challenges are appearing in form of
draught and flooding in recent years, along with this there is a rapid increase in the
temperature that is leading global warming. This climate change has represented food
insecurity and lack of nutritious products. The ministers of Dominican Republic and
agriculture of the CAC both have entered in third phase of the ECC-CARD initiative.

 Opportunities in bringing the change with my actions
The opportunities that I see to affect change with my actions are developing
awareness among the Santo Domingo community members of the city regarding the
climate change through social media, programs and role-plays. The awareness will be
helpful in the community to take right actions with the climate (Holtkamp, 2016). The
more people of the city will be aware of, the more there are chances for developments. I
would prefer living a sustainable lifestyle by using cycle over bikes, preferring pooling
over individual driving. I would also make sure that I use clothing bags over plastic ones
and should plant trees. In my lifestyle, I would also initiate the culture of recycling where
the items can be recycled in the best possible manner. As many pragmas are operated in
the state like the Readiness program and a contribution of USD $2,996,325 from the
Green Climate Fund, are very profitable hence support to these programs can solve issues
of climate change.
 Agency for the broader impact
The agency can be used to have broader impact is by building awareness of the
climate change issue in the city through creative ways. The ways that can be used are
social media, radio and print ads (Holtkamp, 2016). In a creative manner, the message of
saving the city from the climate change could be communicated to Santo Domingo
community members as that helps them achieve the best possible outcomes. It can also
conduct various competition and programs to improve the motto of the people to plant
trees and other important ways of getting in an effective manner.
