INTRODUCTION
Community engagement can be characterized as a concept that promotes collaborative work
within groups and teams in order to facilitate possible solution to the existing issues and
problems in the society and promote the well-being of the same. It is a process whereby an
organisation or a group of people or any other form of team come together in order to work
towards betterment of the society and formulate and implement certain strategies or campaigns
that can uplift the current standard of society (Williams, Woolliams and Spiro, 2020).
Formulation and incorporation of a community engagement proposal or program can help a
business organisation can assist in the enhancement better customer retention. The major
objective of community engagement is to contribute to the society and the community in which
the business firm prevails and carries out its business process and function (Tote and Rawekar,
2020). The proposed reflective report will provide insights about the knowledge and
understanding acquired by me during the project course of “Community Engagement in Hotel
Business”. When the workforce and staff of the hotel business organisation are compelled to be a
part of the community engagement program regulated by an organisation, it helps them to build
better networking, team work, coordination, problem solving capabilities and interaction skills.
MAIN BODY
Gibbs Model
Gibbs Model is a reflective model which allows the individuals to exhibit their learning
experience in a deliberate and systematic manner (Robbins, Onodipe and Marks, 2020). Gibbs
model provides the opportunity to the individuals to utilize various stages in order to provide
deep insights about every particular stage in detailed manner and depict their learning journey in
an interesting and appropriate manner (Tilakaratna and Szenes, 2020). In order to depict my
learning experience, Gibbs model of reflection has been taken to consideration as it more reliable
and relevant as per the requirement of the proposed reflective report. The respective stages of the
Gibbs Model are as follows: -
Description

I was provided with an assignment on “Community Engagement on Hotel Businesses” wherein I
had to identify the community engagement practices prevailing within the hotel business
industry. I had to determine various dimensions as well as attributes of community engagement
and how it benefits the business as well as social engagement of the respective enterprises or
institutions working in the respective sector. The project allowed me to state that community
engagement is one of the potential and leading components that help the hotel firm to increment
their social interaction within the society. It also allowed me to reflect upon the different
practices adopted by the firms in order to alleviate their community engagement operations. It
was very interesting topic that required me to study and research about the different firms and the
way they apply and incorporate the community engagement variables within their business
setting. The idea behind the project was to enhance my understanding and obtain relevant
overview about the practises that are incorporated by the leading organisation such as Marriot
firm in the field of hotel business. The main aim was to determine the impact of community
engagement upon the business firms and their operations.
Feeling
In the initial phase of the project, I was very nervous about the fact that whether I will be able to
do justice to the proposed title of the project or not. But gradually when I started understanding
the concept of community engagement and the strategies about adopted by various business
enterprises in the field of hotel industry I gained the adequate confidence related to my content. I
also had to bear a lot of pressure in order to meet the timeline and the deadline set for the
completion of the project. I genuinely believe that in order to complete a project in an authentic
and credible manner, it is very important for an individual to have confidence and faith in what
they are doing. After a point of time when I started getting the much necessary command over
the project, my confidence level increased. I was more comfortable working on the respective
project as well. I must confess that the project was a bit time consuming because I had to do a lot
of research work and analysis of the data available in the public sources in order to gain an in-
depth understanding of the ways and attributes to which community engagement has been
practised in the past years as well as currently in the hotel industry. Overall, it can be said that I
had a really good time working on the project as it helped me to build my self-confidence and be

more flexible while working on such general and industry centred topics where in I get an
opportunity to exercise my understanding in various dimensions.
Evaluation
The finest part of working on this particular project can be termed as the opportunity to gain such
relevant and interesting insights about the community engagement process in various hotel
organisations. The assignment also helped me to deliver quality work that too within the
predetermined deadline. The fact that earlier I was pretty hesitant and nervous about the project
but with the course of time working on the project helped me to gain the self-assurance and
believe in myself was very exciting for me as learner. The motivation drawn by me while
working on the project is impeccable and incredible in nature. My work ethics also enhanced
while facilitating the concerned project report on community engagement. It can be justified by
the execution of the report that I only selected the sources and the data that are authentic in
nature and did not rely upon vague facts at all. One thing that did not go in my favour and I
really had to struggle a lot was managing my time. I have always been complete procrastinator
and the respective trait has impacted my work in the past as well. Even during this particular
assignment, I started running out of time and there was a bit research left that had to be done on
the prior basis in order to form the for the derivations of the project report. But I did not lose the
hope and gave my vest to complete the project on time without any delay in the submission.
Analysis
The potential reason for the effective completion of the project and the achievement of all the
objectives and requirements of proposed project can be given to the fact that the topic of the
project was in one of my interest areas. I aligned my strength to the same in order to derive the
best possible outcome that can be generated through my hard work and sheer dedication. I am
very satisfied that I relied upon time management techniques such as formulation of the time
table or incorporation of the target set tool which helped me to complete my project on the given
time without any unnecessary interruption or delay. I believe that being assertive and having the
relevant knowledge about the environment in which one is conducting the project research is
very important in order to formulate a competent and relevant project report. In context to the
community engagement activities in the hotel businesses, I focused upon the community

engagement activities regulated by the Marriot organisation. The former provided the necessary
assistance to me in gaining relevant data about its business operation across the world. This
facilitated me to assess how different JW Marriot’s community engagement programs are in
comparison to other business organisation and the way is it impact upon the society as well as
business environment of the same. Hereby, I was able to analyse the every business entity is
trying its best to introduce community engagement programs that are very unique and innovative
from their competitors (Ramlal and Augustin, 2020). The respective practice is opening new
doors and opportunities in field of community engagement and more and more individuals are
getting attracted to the same as well.
Conclusion
The proposed project on community engagement helped me to learn about the quality
engagement of the individuals within the community purpose led by Hotel businesses in their
respective industry. It also gave me necessary insights about the importance of economic
development as well as preservation of the environmental resources such as ocean and other
forms of natural bodies in order to enhance the standard of environment within the society.
Working upon the respective assignment has made me realise that community engagement is a
very broad concept. There are various variables attached to the same which can help the hotel
firms to prosper and sustain in the market environment effectively within the business
environment. I believe that I did justice with my work and I have delivered my best performance
in the formation of the respective project report. I also feel that as learners we are required to
continuously challenge ourselves and dive into opportunities which are a bit conflicting and
challenging nature in order to let the best version of ourselves shine and achieve greater
outcomes and results pertaining to the same. It can be stated that this particular project brought
the best out of me. I was able to capitalise on each and every kind of prominent skill such as
communication skills, critical thinking ability, problem-solving etc. in order to derive the
conclusion related to the project and to achieve the learning outcomes associated with the same
in an effective and credible manner.
Action Plan

Formulation and designing of advance and competent action plan is very necessary in order to
ensure that if I get an opportunity to do something that is related to the current project type, I can
do that better and with great efficiency and strategy optimisation. I can say this very confidently
that if I was to engage in a similar kind of project in the future run, I will be more sincere
towards the time management. I will ensure that I am following a systematic timetable through
which I can achieve the goals related to the project timeline and complete the project easily
within the set time frame allotted by the professors with productivity and efficiency. I would also
like design an organised structure before formulating a project in order to determine the relevant
sections and the word count allotted to the particular section so as to complete the project within
the allotted words that too in a precise yet impactful manner. In the upcoming projects I will try
to engage into new concepts that have not been explored by me in the past. It will give me the
necessary drive to tap into the opportunities that are unfamiliar with me in order to build my
knowledge and understanding about new concepts as well as increment my current level of skill
set to the maximum. I would ensure that I am motivated enough in the initial phase of my project
in order to build a solid base of content rather than forming delusional opinions and getting
influenced by dilemma of whether the content is attractive or not. I will believe in instincts and
work in accordance with the same. The concerned practice will help me to build a strong
foundation of the project and lead the project in a productive and considerable manner. Overall, I
can say that I will learn from minor mistakes that I attempted during the execution of this project
and try and not repeat the same in the future run. The respective ideology will help to grow as a
learner and excel in the upcoming opportunity waiting in the way of my professional career as
well as personal life.
CONCLUSION
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that working on the concerned project was an
extremely enriching experience for me. Being an academic enthusiast, I feel very fortunate to
learn various new ways of facilitating research within an industry and integrating the same in the
project in an authentic manner. I am really grateful and thankful for my professors for assisting
me throughout the project and giving me an opportunity to write a reflective report which can
summarise my thoughts and opinions about the amazing journey that was facilitated during the
course of the project.
