1COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION
Introduction:
The importance of the healthy rate of aging has been intensifying on a gradual rate with
the growing prevalence of the issues related to health. According to the epidemiological studies,
11% of the population of the world is over 60 years which will eventually increase to 22% by
2050 (Wiles et al. 2012). For the vulnerability during the process of health, the older population
needs specific health care services for the provision of a healthy living. Hence the primary aim of
the healthcare sectors is towards fulfilling the criteria of the older population. The following case
study illustrates the aging population of the community of Wollongong between 2036 estimating
the rate of population of people aging 6 years and over more in number as compared to the
people under 15 years of age. The paper aims to illustrate the characteristics of the community
with one of the primary and the secondary data sources and the requirement of the aged
population in the below paragraphs of the essay.
The characteristics of the community
The social cohesion and the determinants of heath are the important factors needed to be
considered for the understanding of the community. Wollongong is one of the community
population residing in the seaside of New South Wales of Australia. Composed of 29% of
aboriginals within the population, this community incudes the population of aged people within
the range of 65 years more than the young generation belonging to age of 15 years. According to
Gaertner et al. (2016) this scenario indicates the high rate of mortality which exceeds the birth
rate within the community. Hence for the effective understanding of the community and the
communal requirements, it is essential to consider the characteristics of the community that
includes the rural and the suburban types, the geographical boundaries, the places or the

situations, the idea of the status of the nutrition, the rate of poverty, the rate of unemployment,
the racial , the social and the colonialism of the community.
The primary and the secondary resources towards the community understanding
Due to the rapid aging of the Wollongong population there has been the increased need
for the understanding of the integrated factors regarding the community contributing to the rapid
aging process (Bone et al. 2016). Towards taking the insight in the situation for gaining the
understanding of the community, the experimental studies and the field report conducted by the
practitioner of the health promotion in community of Wollongong would be the potential
primary source. Some of the main reasons for the purpose of the research for the collection of the
information or data like the number of the individuals in community that includes gender, age,
ethnicity and race , racial discrimination, employments rate, nutritious status, housing , mental
health and violence rate challenges that is directly communicating with community individuals
(Antwi and Hamza 2015). The journals which are peer reviewed in based on the governmental
surveys, the community and the interviews from the electronic databases which are mostly
suitable secondary sources. This is because the peer reviewed journals researchers documents the
internal factors of the community that cannot be observed from the point of lay man for helping
the implementation of the evidence practice also together with the proper identification of the
unique need of the individual and the accurate health promotional for the community.
The need of the aged population
First Journal
According to the accumulative literatures it is illustrates cognitive decline as one of the
key players contributing the rapid aging. For the purpose of understanding the need of the older

individuals of the population, it is required towards the gaining of the perspectives of the older
adults. According to Moebs et al. (2018), the authors of this article conducted the interview for
understanding the perception of the older individuals with the cognitive impairment over the
cognitive rehabilitation. As explained within the article, the authors conducted an interview
which has been an effective qualitative study where the respondents are the targeted group
having certain criteria. It thus helped the researchers towards the gain of the perspectives of the
participants sue to the interview that not only assist towards the gaining of the factual data but
also emotional data. The methodology of the research paper in focus would be effective to be
take in account for gaining the understanding of the need of the older individual in the
Wollongong community. It would be beneficial for the consideration since it would provide the
opportunity towards the health practitioner and the participants for focusing of the internal
factors leading to the rapid aging (Brinkmann 2016). These includes factors such as the
relationship with the family members and the status of the metal health. The method prescribed
in the article is advantageous for understanding the need of the community. Some of the
disadvantages of the method includes the time consumptions and the dependency on the
emotional data rather than the actual data.
Second Journal
One of the most reported and debated challenge of the aged population of the community
is the domestic violence. As per the study conducted by Ruelas-González et al. (2016), the
survey of Mexico 2012 national health and national survey with the sample size of 8894
individual among the age range 60 years , there existed negative reports of health event related to
aggression, violence and lack of proper health care, nutrition and food. The researcher of the
study utilized the fisher’s exact t test and the chi- square for the analysis of the result. The survey

has been the quantitative research method for the assistance of the factors behind the issue. The
community based survey prescribed would allow the researchers for gaining an understanding
the needs of the older individual with the assistance of the numerical values (Aihara et al. 2016).
Advantage of the method prescribed is low cost community based survey and high rate statistical
significance of the large population. The disadvantage of the method is the lack of comfort of the
respondents towards the survey.
Conclusion
The process of the aging is defined as the procedure of the increase in the susceptibility
of the individuals as they grow old. For the gaining of the data or the information of the
community of Wollongong, the primary resource should be the experimental studies like the
random control trials, the secondary resources and the cross sectional study while the secondary
resources should be the governmental surveys and the peer reviewed journals.
