Community Health Care in Wyndham: A NURBN2009 Analysis

Introduction
The essay will critically analyse the key concepts of health promotion and the health
education in the vulnerable group of Wyndham city council ( Victoria). The role of nurses
in health literacy and health education of the vulnerable population will be discussed. The
role of mental health support services in the Wyndham city council to prevent the mental
health disorders among the people of the community . The essay will evaluate effectiveness
of mental health services with respect to Ottawa Carter Health Promotion principles
(www.who.int., 2020).
Discussion
Being a vulnerable community, Wyndham faces so many challenges in different
areas, comparing to the Greater Melbourne and Victoria. They used to suffer from mental
illness of social discrimination. The discriminating attitude and systems towards them put
them into the darkness of being the consumers of lower range materials, infrastructures and
non-adequate government aids. The negative impact of being a discriminated community
used to affect their relationships (Steers et al, 2019). The health and pharmaceutical
commodities are also remain ineffective sometimes, especially in the north and west
catchments. The policies of government sometime led them to so many difficulties as they
are more deprived and insignificant community. They sometimes marked as intelligent and
efficient as the Victorian and Greater Melbourne people, but as the people of an
undistinguished part of the country they faces unemployment problems in their society
(www.wyndham.vic.gov.au.,2020). The high rate of unemployment force them to be the
financially weaker section of the country. The economical deflation is one of the toughest
barriers in their lives. All the above discussed problems are some reasons of the prevalence
depression and anxiety in the habitants of Wyndham City. These psychological health issues

led them to the wrong habits of alcohol addiction and smoking (Thombs & Osborn, 2019). As
the dominant people of the country they do not get the advantages to consult the counsellors
or psychiatrist or psychologist practising in the big cities who usually have the large amount
of patients (wyndham-digital.iconagency.com.au.,2020). Neither the famous ones nor the
infamous ones helps them to heal the psychological health issues of their lives. The
government also do not use to care about their mental illness so much, as the seriousness of
this problem remains underrated as their lives.
Building Healthy principles
In Wyndham City, the mental health of women and the young people are affected by
different reasons. The young people and women are affected by poor mental health due to
unemployment, lack of health education and much alcohol abusesled the habitants and their
lives in a miserable condition(whwest.org.au.,2020). Seeing their social conditions the young
group of the community are also getting affected in their social life, career foundations and
intelligence. They are also not getting employed after trying hard due to lack education,
skills, and social discrimination.Due to lack of health literacy the vulnerable group of people
suffering from chronic health diseases and leading unhealthy lifestyle. Therefore, policies
like mental health first aid standards should be implemented
Strengthen the supportive environments
As the mental health of the different gender works differently, the importance of
mental wellbeing is more important in the matter of gender equity. The gender equity is much
affected in this community as the women are generally faces violence and oppressions by the
male and intimate partners and they are generally killed by them in every four to five days of
week, according to a report of 2015(Kittay, 2019). Limited access to the resources, poverty,
social isolation and economical discrimination women generally faces low mental health

conditions. According to a report of 2011, only 49.2 percents of women of the Wyndham
City’s habitants were participated in citizen engagement activities. The women of Wyndham
City undertake unpaid works than men. Example- 29.1 percent of women compared to 21.1
per cent of men reported undertaking unpaid childcare. The young people faces different
social circumstances. Bullying, homelessness, unemployment, alcohol and substance abuse,
lack of access to essential commodities and facilities have made them vulnerable group of the
Wyndham community. 52.6 percent of young people are addicted to alcohol, 17.9 per cents
addicted to smoking, 32.6 per cent are affected with substance abuse (wyndhamclinic.com.au.
,2020). The government should build permanent shelters for the young inhabitants. They
should have the access towardstheir educational and career developments. The Wyndham
City government have already developed a website to enhance the social access of the young
population, so they have to use the website for developing their mental health and social
positions.
Reorienting Health services
Mental health of young people needs to be taken care by the nurses with holistic and
integrated service provision. Increasing capacity of early interventions for young people,
increase the funding for a youth triage and assessing the needs of this population will help in
reorientation of service provision. Relationship among different level intervention providers
will enhance the service provision with respect support system. Community based detox and
rehabilitation programmes should be promoted by the government and private healthcare
providers. Educational programme for young people are mandatory recommendation for
reducing binge drinking and substance abuse to improve healthy lifestyle. The social stigma
eradication can also be helpful in health service reorientation.

Developing Personal Skill
In this developing era the residents of the Wyndham City should develop their
personal skills for both their regular activities and professional upliftment. Government and
local authorities with the help of healthcare providers and support should work for
developing the personal skills of the vulnerable groups. Concerning the holistic development
the government introduced several plans; like-, educational scholarships, career counselling
programmes, different awards and competition e.t.c. Several committees and youth care
centres were also built to look after the problems. People must know how to apply the
schemes and advantages given by the government that can help them to build a progressive
future. The varieties of different skills and hobbies can lead their life and career towards a
bright future. So, every residents of the community have to be aware of their own interest and
capability. For the much discriminated women of the city government should start some
schemes regarding further learning, social establishment, health advisory, legal advocacy etc.
Some groups of healthcare workers should be building to give them proper guidance and care
regarding their physical and mental health. A group of legal advisors should also build to
look after their social positions and violence on them.
Strengthen the community actions
The vulnerable group of people are the subject to have some facility to strengthen
their social condition. The deprived group of women usually face much social violence by
their own partner and others in their family (Kearns, Muldoon, Msetfi & Surgenor, 2019). So,
they firstly need the proper care towards their declined health conditions due to social and
physical abuse. Teenage fertility rates, low usage of condoms due to mass illiteracy, poor pap
screening, and infection notification levels of sexually transmitted diseases are some reasons
that causes the sexual and reproductive health issues in women; especially the young women.
These significant health priorities have to be cured by the healthcare providers. The women

of Wyndham City should get proper training by the healthcare workers as they have to know
about the process of self care. The social position of the city’s women is a concerning topic
which has to be solved with the help and advises of legal advocates and then legal advocacy
groups formed by the government. The women of the city have to be aware of their gender
equity and social foundation and economical progress. As learning is considered as the
fundamental property in every people’s well-being, prosperity and practical sense
development, the youths of Wyndham City should take proper guidance and necessary
requirements to complete their learning(Taylor, 2018). Learning is the primary and a very
important subject in their career foundation
Commitment to health promotion
Government and local authority should advocate for changing the system to improve
the effective people's lives. They promote social inclusion and fundamental human rights by
their advocacy (www.parliament.vic.gov.au., 2020). Advocacy team helps in building
coalition and promote the strategy plan for patient’s better quality of life. The number of
initiatives based on the objective of increasing health literacy and medical adherence will be
increased. Frequent survey and feedback seeking programmes will maintain the integrity
between actions taken by health promotion and improving quality of life among women and
young people of Wyndham City.

Advocate
Mental health providers are bound to support the vulnerable group of people as per
mental health act of Australia (2014)( Pugh, Aziz, Herring & Savulescu, 2019). As this act
states that involuntary commitment and treatment for the psychologically affected people.
The act set out a framework that is intended to promote recovery-oriented practise,

minimizing compulsory treatment and can protect and support the rights of the people with
mental illness(www.wyndham.vic.gov.au. ,2020). Effective frameworks and planning for
better mental health of citizens of the city and healthcare providers should be implemented
by government and the municipality of the city
Enable
In-depth research and evaluations must be conducted to improve the quality and
effectiveness of services provided by public and private healthcare organisations(World
Health Organization.,2017). The research group has must consist representatives from the
consumer's families, caregivers and associated professionals. Therefore they can implement
better policies and support networking in future.
Mediate
To increase health literacy those organisations should provide training for aspiring
support workers and mental health professionals to serve affected people. They provide
information for the consumer’s families and caregivers on mental health recovery. They have
support from National and international partners so that they can represent the interest of
people with mental health issues through different platforms.
Role of nurses
Registered nurses are integral parts of the government and private health initiatives
for the vulnerable group of people. In women empowerment and youth rehabilitation
programs, nurses must help them as educators and counsellors and definitely as a care
providers(Stanhope, Faan, Lancaster & Faan, 2019). Nurses can help in advocacy and
research as they the first line members of healthcare sectors . The nurses help deprived
young people in rehabilitation by the holistic approach of treatment .

Conclusion
The essay concludes that the Health provider should look after the vulnerable
community people by giving education, skill enhancing training, better healthcare provision,
and support them by improving the mental health condition of those people. Healthcare
providers not only provide services to people with poor mental health but also provide
education and undertake research. They also support people with providing daily living skill.
