AI Summary
This presentation, designed for a nursing research course, addresses the challenges faced by nurses in community settings. It highlights issues such as transportation difficulties, safety and security concerns, communication barriers, and long working hours. The presentation reviews existing literature to support these points, emphasizing the impact of community values, beliefs, and cultural practices on nursing services. Recommendations include nurses learning about the specific communities they serve, respecting cultural practices, and adhering to safety precautions. The presentation also suggests improvements for future research, such as expanding the number of sources and collecting primary data through interviews. The goal is to promote evidence-based practices to overcome challenges in community nursing and improve patient outcomes. This assignment is a presentation and abstract based on a literature review, focusing on practical solutions and future research directions. The presentation is part of the NURS1102 course and includes a 250-word abstract summarizing the key findings.

Transcript for the presentation
Slide Number 2 (issue of the research): Nurses are an integral part of the health care
system since they are involved in improving health outcomes of patients by providing holistic
care. Recently, community nursing has attracted widespread attention due to its ability to
improve health status of the individuals. Community nursing focuses on improving the health
outcome by providing adequate health care services to individuals in their own environment.
However, nurses have to encounter several issues while providing health services in any
community. The complexity and the type of issue varies depending upon the values, beliefs
and cultural practices of the community. Some of the most common issues that are faced by
the community nurses include transportation difficulties, potential safety and security issues,
communication barriers, threat of assaults, exhaustion and hence, reduced work efficiency
due to long working hours.
Slide Number 3 (key points of literature): Various researches have been conducted
in order to evaluate the challenges faced by the nurses in providing community services. An
analysis of scholarly literature suggested that inadequate transportation facilities has been
identified as one of the key issues associated with community nursing. Most of the nurses
face transportation issues due to underdevelopment of the areas, poor transportation system,
which compels them to find alternative transportation methods in order to reach these
communities. Another issue is the remote location or underdevelopment of certain
communities that also pose high risk regarding the safety of the nurses. Many cases of
hijacking/kidnapping have been reported in the past, which has created fear amongst the
nurses in providing services to the same areas. The security of the equipments carried by the
nurses is another significant issue in such areas. Furthermore, the nurse may not know the
local language of the communities, which might make communication difficult and hence, it

may lead to longer assessment periods and incorrect diagnosis. Some nurses try to tackle the
aforementioned issues by learning the local language or employing a translator. However,
this requires additional funding and the information from the interpreter may not be always
appropriate, which ultimately affects the diagnosis. The nurses have experienced assault
while providing services to unstable/mentally challenged people. These cases include pouring
hot water or porridge on the nurse, which has reduced their willingness to work in such
environments. Lastly, long working hours is another issue as it causes exhaustion and
decreases the efficiency of the nurses by affecting their ability to adequately assess and
counsel the community members.
Slide number 4 (recommendations): Hence, it is essential for the nurses to exhibit
creativity and develop additional skills in providing holistic care to the patients. It is
recommended that nurses must learn about the specific community, their cultural practices
and a few words of the local language. This would assist in gaining the trust of the
community members. Moreover, when the nurses would respect their beliefs and cultural
practices, then the community members would willingly cooperate with the nurses. Lastly,
nurses must show adherence to the recommendation of following safety precautions while
dealing with unstable patients. Thus, these skills and techniques would aid in overcoming the
challenges faced by nurses in providing community services. Furthermore, the future research
may be improved by increasing the number of sources accessed for reviewing this literature.
Apart from the collection of secondary data, it is also recommended to collect primary data
may also be collected in order to increase the accuracy of the study. This can be done by
conducting interviews of nurses, community members and government officials. Thus,
evidence-based practice may be used to overcome issues that are commonly faced during
community nursing.
