1USING RESEARCH IN NURSING
Abstract
The aim of this research was to analyze the challenges faced by the nurses in
providing health services in the communities. This is important because the utilization of
community nursing has increased significantly in order to provide holistic care and improve
the health outcomes of the people. However, the nurses face numerous difficulties in
providing services outside the clinical settings. The complexity and the type of challenge
varies depending upon the beliefs and cultural practices of the community. The literature
review was prepared by referring to various authentic sources (library website, Google
scholar and the library). Based on the available literature, the most common challenges faced
by the community nurses were identified. These included lack of adequate transportation
facilities, potential safety and security concerns, communication barriers, threat of assaults,
and reduced work efficiency (due to long working hours). The nurses had to travel to remote
and underdeveloped locations with transportation difficulties. Moreover, they were hesitant in
providing services in many locations where there had been previous incidents of nurse
hijacking/kidnapping. They were also unwilling to provide services to unstable patients due
to numerous cases of assault. Furthermore, the inability of the nurses to converse in the local
language of certain communities had negatively affected their ability to provide adequate
health care services. The research emphasized the importance of learning about the specific
community, their cultural practices and basics of the local language before visiting the
communities Thus, it was concluded that the nurses need to exhibit creativity and develop
additional skills in order to overcome the challenges faced while providing community
services.
