Title: Research upon the
needs of the local school for
the poor
Week 1 Activity
Description For my community service project, teams were made to visit
the local school for the poor. I wanted to get involved with
education and started reading about the school for the poor
community. I worked with other volunteers to assess the
conditions of the school and note down the shortcomings. We
visited the school in different groups and spoke to the students,
staff and the principal. The purpose was to get a comprehensive
picture of the schools and any shortcomings. The community
service project was designed with an aim to help the local poor
school and show interest in education improvement.
Key Learning point After visiting the school and interacting with the teachers and
students, it was found that there was a serious shortage of
classroom supplies, desks, chairs, and teachers. The literacy
rates were low, and most children dropped out of school. I
learned about the school conditions and my understanding of
what education looked like in other parts of the world
expanded. The local poor communities are typically reluctant
to open to the outside people and carry a distrust. As school
and communities are linked deeply, it is essential to work on
the school for the total upliftment of the society.
Knowledge and skills Good communication skills, observation and empathy were

Title: Raise money for the
school and its supplies via a
fundraising event
Week 2 Activity

Description The next step was to raise money, and a fundraising event was
planned so that the money collected could be used to buy
supplies for the school and its students. We worked together
and took feedback of each group to focus on what were the
essential items the school needed. It was decided that books,
chairs, and tables were the immediate requirements. A budget
was set for the fundraising event plan, and extra space was kept
for the costs and expenses for running the fundraising vent. We
wanted to have an operational budget and keep our financial
status in view. The volunteers had regular meetings to
brainstorm and decide upon the kind of fundraising event and
the marketing plan.
Key Learning point Community engagement is extremely important for a
fundraising event. It is essential to raise awareness about the
community project and develop comprehensive campaigns for
successful outcomes. It is important to find partners for the
volunteer programs and community-based events when raising
funds. Access to even wider audiences is essential for success.
It is essential to know the targeted audience and have a good
marketing plan in place. One needs to have sound financial
planning is to make a budget. The whole team needed to work
with discipline and focus for the project.
Knowledge and skills Leadership quality, Teambuilding skills, social media
campaigns, email campaigns and use local media for a
comprehensive fundraising campaign. Communication and
timing are essential too at this stage of the project.

Title: Buy the supplies for
school
Week 3 Activity
Description Once the fundraising event was over, the money collected was
used to buy the supplies for the school. Before spending the
money, expenses and income were noted down for accurate
financial records. The volunteer team had to document the
operating expenses and the money raised for sound financial
planning. Based on the operational budget, the money was used
to buy the supplies. Significant portion of the budget was used
to buy desks, chairs and a smaller portion as spent on the
chairs. It was felt that desks and chairs were of immediate
importance for the school. Expenses and income were noted
down for accurate financial records.

Key Learning point It is not easy to handle the money coeluted and keep the
accounts in order and with accuracy. The volunteer team had to
brush up their accountancy skills before starting and keep an
eye on the inflow and outflow of the money. The school
expressed sincere gratitude and happiness when they saw those
new desks and chairs for the students. The experience taught
me to be humble and grateful for what life gives us. It was
humbling to think about the advantages we enjoy as students
and do not think much about the standard equipment provided
by the school such as the desks and the chairs.

Report:
Introduction
Community service can be seen as an essential part of lifelong learning that takes place
beyond the four walls of the classroom. The social interaction and participation towards a higher
cause not only results in making a project successful but also encourages individualization of
learning on a personal level (Su and Feng, 2014). Community service can be seen as informal
learning in the overall lifelong learning process. The current community service project worked
as a platform for personal improvement and learning as well as served the betterment of the
society. many different noodle and skills were acquired and developed over the course of the
project.
Body
The above experience of participating in a community project that involved to raise funds
for a local poor school was indeed a great experience. It means working for the betterment of
society and getting involved with others. Our efforts not only helped to raise the condition of a
local school but the whole experience was an eye-opener for each one of us. The project brought
all the members together, and there were feelings of gratitude and positivity all around. The

whole groups felt motivated to work together, and each one of us felt that we had become a
better human being in terms of quality.
The community service project taught me to be patient, humble and cooperative. Before
starting any project, communicating with each other and the chosen organization is essential.
When scheduling a community service and planning its event, time and discipline are of utmost
importance. No project can be successful if it is not completed within the time frame. Moreover,
for that, someone has to lead efforts. Thus, local leaders are growing and developed within the
school who can plan the project and sustain its long-term efforts. He has to keep the team
focused and motivated to achieve the goals of the project.
The community service project brought everyone together and involved other students,
parents, and schools so that they can contribute to the community as responsible citizens. When
the right opportunities are available, everyone seeks the chance to get involved and participate in
community projects. The community service project reflected the relationship between school,
student community, parents and the involvement of the local community. Active and higher
participation leads to increased motivations and success.
Conclusion
The different stages of the community service project brought different challenges at
different phases. Initially, the volunteer group had to interact with the teachers and students and
had to be good with their communicating skills to win the trust of the school. Observation and
empathy were essential to get a complete picture of the school. For the fundraising event, the
volunteer team has to be good with their planning and come out with practical and useful ideas
for fundraising. They had to work according to the budget set and involve the community by
targeting the right audience with effective marketing. At the last phase. The team had to be good
with their financial planning and run an operational budget.
