2. Brief summary of the project
The rate of Family and Domestic violence in Australia is increasing day by day which
leaves a serious concern for community developers. Especially in the city of Melbourne around
300,000 women have to face domestic violence. In 2016, the report says that around 42% of
murder case is related to family and domestic violence (abs.gov.au, 2018). Based on this
background, a project plan is developed in being associated with migrant community. The
primary role of this very specific community is to identify the issues that cause serious violent
activities. Othman, Goddard & Piterman (2014) opined that women are the primary victims of
domestic violence. Thus community workers of Melbourne city have raised their concern on how
to reduce the rate of domestic violence from the city (Owen & Carrington, 2015).
3. Aim of the project:
This particular project has aimed to make an in-depth overview about the impact of
domestic violence in hampering social harmony and the role of migrant community workers in
resolving the issues.
4. Why the project is needed:
In addition, it has also been observed that migrant women have to become the victim of
domestic violence severely. Australia is out an out a developed country in terms of technological
as well as economic strengths. Large numbers of immigrant visits to the country for enhancing
their employability opportunity. However, at the very initial stage immigrants have to struggle

immensely in order to settle their career. Being unable to find out a proper source of bread and
butter women have to face extreme violence from the male. As per report, Melbourne man
pointed a gun at his wife and children in an episode of domestic violence in front of their
children (floridatoday.com 2018).
This particular incident has left a major impact on the overall community. It has also been
observed that a Melbourne woman is sentenced to jail for five years for killing her abusive
partner Richard Powell (abc.net.au 2018). As per this report the women had to face extreme
domestic violence from her husband day by day. This incident is just the outcome of over
aggressiveness and protest of being tortured and neglected. The incident of domestic violence is
not only the cause of social damage. Domestic violence is a social crime due to which around
60% of the people especially women have to face catastrophic consequence, either homicide or
suicide. As a result, it is a cause of social damage which ultimately destroys the harmony of a
society. Melbourne is the city where large numbers of migrants have settled down due to its good
scopes and opportunities in the professional field. Report has showed that among Australia the
rate of domestic violence is high in Melbourne city.
As already stated this specific project primarily intends to identify the cause of domestic
violence by conducting an effective survey in the cities of Melbourne (Donovan & Hester, 2015).
It has been observed that rate of domestic violence in the city of Melbourne is becoming an
extreme day by day which causes a serious effect on social especially community development
(Campbell & Messing, 2017). Therefore, the migrant community developers of Melbourne have
decided to make effective initiatives by interacting with the victims of domestic violence. The
workers have showed them a new path on how to regain a new life by rendering rebellious

attitudes. This specific project would help the victims enormously on how to use skills and
competency of an individual.
5. Community work approach or model:
The model of community development: a social justice implies that human should give
value the culture, skill, resource of an individual. This very specific model has made a major
positive impact on the overall growth of society (Salter, 2014). Every human being should get
equal respect and dignity and has every right to show their skills and talents. Human being
should not be ignored in showing their competency level be it a male or female. Survey has
showed that most of the victims of domestic violence are women (Bond & Jeffries, 2014). They
are not allowed to keep themselves outside a curtain. As a result, they have to face immense
torture and violent activities from their partners or family members. However, this very specific
model promotes for social justice (Brown & James, 2014). Society should follow anti-
discrimination act where both male and female employees should get equal respect and dignity.
Every human being has equal right to establish their identity on the society so that the person can
create an impression. By using this framework the community workers would make effective
promotional campaign against domestic violence (Baird, Ferran & Wright, 2014).
6. Project objectives, strategies and activities:
However, the primary objectives of this very specific project are as follows:
 To identify the cause of domestic violence by conducting an effective survey in the cities of
Melbourne

 To collect necessary data and information for evaluating the consequences of domestic
violence
 To provide effective services to the victims based on which the rate of domestic violence can
be resolved from the city
In order to make the project issue successful migrant community would like to follow
specific strategies (Zannettino & McLaren, 2014). Conducting a survey method is one of the
most significant strategies based on which community workers would like to gather necessary
data and information regarding the impact of domestic violence from the victims (Costa et al.,
2015). After identifying the issues from survey the community workers have done several
activities for resolving the issue. The activities are as follows:
 Maintaining interpersonal communication with the victims to share their problems and issues
 Showing the victims a right path so that they can be financially independent by utilizing their
skills and competency level
 Making an effective promotional campaign in order to create an awareness among the
people against domestic violence
7. Evaluation:
The project is developed to spread awareness against domestic violence in which
Melbourne stands at the top of the list. The project is widely focusing on preventing the domestic
violence and undertaking the future initiatives to protect it. In order to collect the enriched data
on the domestic violence issue in a community of Melbourne, an extensive survey process has
been conducted. Zannettino and McLaren (2014) remarked that the survey process helps in
gathering the collective responses who have been facing such issue in their real life. The

obtained information from the survey process highlights the diverse types of domestic violence
and its impact on their mental state. Apparently, it is expected to gather more insightful
knowledge various areas suggestively associated with the subject matter. However, Salter (2014)
contradicted such view by stating that use of the qualitative research method would have been
more informative than the quantitative data gathered from the survey. The face-to-face
conversation with the people who have been experiencing such scenario would generate more in-
depth concern with the emerging issues related to domestic violence. In fact, the body language,
the non verbal attributes, and voice modulation of the respondents would have created closer
observation of the issues in a specific way.

While preparing the overall budget it has been observed that community workers would
like to focus on survey method and promotional campaign primarily so that they can resolve the
issue. Survey method would help to collect direct data and information from the respondents
who are associated with the issue (Wong & Mellor, 2014). On the other hand, promotional
campaign is very much effective to create awareness among the people about the negative impact
of domestic violence. This campaign will make an alert to the victims as well as abusers. Victims
would be able to gain confidence in leading a healthy life. At the same time, the culprits can get
a lesson about the consequence of this kind of anti-social deeds (Roberts, Chamberlain &
Delfabbro, 2015). Promotional campaign can multiply the messages beyond going regional
boundary as well.

9. Potential funding resources:
Initiating any movement to demolish some social crimes require the involvement of the
associated people, both in tangible and intangible way. Therefore, capital investment is the
integral segment of developing any community project. Melbourne Migrant Community also
requires identifying the most reliable sources from where the required funds can be generated to
conduct the research (Wong & Mellor, 2014). The first source of fund raising is the government
of Australia that is both directly and indirectly associated with such community development
programs. On the other hand, some of the non-for–profit organisations, such as Oxfam Australia
and Care Australia would be expected to invest some capital resources for initiating this
development program against domestic violence. These organisations are usually involved with
various types of community development programs to improve the lives of the people who are
living in distress within a society (Owen & Carrington, 2015). The initiative and approaches are
appreciated and expected to develop in future as well. The budget is developed to present this
proposal to the government and non-for-profit organisations. Accordingly, the necessary funds

would be raised and it would segregate into the various departmental expenses. It would help in
developing this plan in a systematic process, which would determine better implications for the
future.

11. Limitation and weakness of the project
In spite of developing the structured plan for initiating the idea of demolishing the act of
domestic violence, the study still reflects on some of the specific limitations. One of the
foreseeable limitations in this study is the techniques used for collecting the necessary
information. The survey process involved the people who have been facing the issues in their
regular lives (Donovan & Hester, 2015). Their biased responses and reluctance towards
expressing the concern are limiting the study in a significant way. On the other hand, this
initiative is conducted by considering the issues in Melbourne. People all around the Australia
have been facing the devastating scenario due to the increasing rate of the domestic violence.
This issue is not even limited to any specific gender; rather it suggests the distress in every
section of the society. Hence, it was quite necessary for the study to conduct the research on the
wider area of the community. However, it is noticeable that the plan is limited within the
Melbourne community, which is quite a major weakness of this study. Undertaking research
based on the dominant parts of the country would have added more necessary information to
gather the suggestive responses.
