Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment is a community teaching work plan proposal focused on primary prevention and health promotion, specifically handwashing, targeting children under 13. The plan outlines the identification of the focus, epidemiological rationale (emphasizing the importance of handwashing in preventing the spread of diseases like COVID-19 and reducing mortality rates), and a nursing diagnosis of the risk for infection. It details the readiness for learning, the behavioral learning theory utilized (with positive reinforcement through rewards), and the integration of Healthy People 2020 objectives (EH-24). The plan includes behavioral objectives (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains), content, teaching strategies (PowerPoint, discussions, demonstrations), and evaluation methods. The plan incorporates creativity through colorful posters and illustrations. It also addresses potential barriers (limited attention span, noise disturbances) and therapeutic communication techniques. The evaluation plan assesses the effectiveness of teaching, the achievement of objectives, and the overall lesson, with a focus on active listening and engaging the audience, including non-verbal communication like demonstration. The assignment also contains the assignment brief and the solution to the assignment.

respiratory infections are reduced by 16% through handwashing. Researchers in London also
outlined that a million lives could be saved every year if every individual washed their hands as
recommended. Handwashing thus is a very important aspect in primary prevention.

Teaching Plan Criteria
Your teaching plan will be graded based on its effectiveness and relevance to the population
selected. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the
assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
Nursing Diagnosis: Risk for infection related to poor hand hygiene
Readiness for Learning: Identify the factors that would indicate the readiness to learn for the
target aggregate. Include emotional and experiential readiness to learn.
The children will be very excited and be eager to learn how to wash their hands properly. They
will be happy since they will be playing with water. The children will also show readiness to
learn by gathering and asking questions they do not understand about the topic. Readiness for
learning plays an important role since it will greatly influence the learning activity.
Learning Theory to Be Utilized: Explain how the theory will be applied.
I will use the behavioral learning model for this learning activity. The theory is the result of
conditioning. Behavior can be learned through reinforcement, be it negative or positive. Positive
reinforcement follows that a person is rewarded for achieving a desirable behavior, whereas,
negative behavior involves taking away what the learner needs as a punishment for not achieving
the desired behavior. Therefore, I will reward the children with soaps and posters portraying
proper handwashing steps after washing their hands correctly.
Goal: Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) objective(s) utilized as the goal for the teaching. Include
the appropriate objective number and rationale for using the selected HP2020 objective (use at
least one objective from one of the 24 focus areas). If an HP2020 objective does not support your
teaching, explain how your teaching applies to one of the two overarching HP2020 goals.
The objective that cover up for Hand washing states that “Reduce the global burden of disease
due to poor water quality, sanitation, and insufficient hygiene” EH-24. Teaching children on
proper hygiene will make them pass the same traits to adulthood as they grow, which will help a
lot in reducing the burden of global diseases. Moreover, children will be able to pass the

handwashing technique to their parents and even other children they interact with. This saves the
community from diseases that may be obtained through poor hand hygiene.
How Does This HP2020 Objective Relate to Alma Ata’s Health for All Global Initiatives
The Alma-Ata Declaration is considered to be a guiding tool which countries can utilized to
improve the status of health and the health services provided for their citizens. This is in line
with the Healthy People 2020 goals that act as a guide for improving the health of the United
States. The World Health Assembly requires that these efforts become a partnership among the
communities, leaders of the country, individual citizens, health organizations, and, to some
extent, other countries (Smith, M.,2009).

Planned Evaluation of Objectives (Outcome Evaluation): Describe what you will measure for
each objective and how.
1. Relevance- the objective only focuses on relevant actions.
2. Specific-changes in the steps can be easily noted. This will be achieved by coming up with
specific objectives that are to be met.
3. Timeliness -ensuring that it effective when needed. The objectives set should be time-bound.
4. Actionable – the performance can be noticed over time and knowledge on when and where
the action should be done.
Planned Evaluation of Goal: Describe how and when you could evaluate the overall
effectiveness of your teaching plan.
I will ensure that I set specific and measurable goals that can be achieved during learning. I will
then test the teaching to figure out if my goal has been achieved at the end of the lesson. This
will be through a question and answer session.
The children will demonstrate proper handwashing.
Planned Evaluation of Lesson and Teacher (Process Evaluation):
I will evaluate the lesson and the teacher by setting questions concerning them that the learners
will answer at the end of the lesson.
Barriers: What are potential barriers that may arise during teaching, and how will those be
handled?
Children have limited attention span; therefore, involving them and redirecting will help.
Lack of power- handouts of the presentation are printed
Noise disturbances- making the lesson more interesting to attract attention. And the use of
colorful posters
Other barriers may include having learners with visual impairments or hearing impairment.
Those with visual impairments can be assisted during demonstration to wash their hands while
poster demonstration can be used more for those with hearing impairment.
Therapeutic Communication
4.2 Communicate therapeutically with patients.

How will you begin your presentation and capture the interest of your audience? Describe the
type of activity will you use with your audience to exhibit active listening? Describe how you
applied active listening in tailoring your presentation to your audience? How will you conclude
your presentation? What nonverbal communication techniques will you employ?
Children love singing. I will, therefore, begin the lesson by singing a song that will capture their
attention. Once they are attentive enough, I will then introduce the topic. Active listening will be
important so that the children grasp the information being taught. To ensure active listening, I
will involve the audience by use of non-verbal cues such as poster demonstration and
demonstration of how to rub the hands during washing. In the end, I will summarize the lesson
and allow children to demonstrate proper handwashing with soap and water. The demonstration
at the end will also be exciting to them as they love to play with water.
