Characterization of Heaven and Hell
Heaven, as commonly related to religion, is a cosmological place where beings such as
God, good spirits and venerated ancestors are said to exist. These heavenly beings can descend
into the earth, and they are said to be accompanied by good events when they descend into the
earth. Heaven is said to be a place where people who lived a holy life, are going to live
peacefully together with angles and good spirits. Hell is also associated with religion belies and
folklore. it is an afterlife location, sometimes a place of torment and punishment. Hell is viewed
to be a place of punishment, where the people considered to be evil will be sent for punishment
after the judgment day ("The Reality of Hell | Eternal Darkness, Fire and No Rest"). This paper
will be comparing the characterization of heaven and hell and noting the difference between the
two.
Heaven is described to be a wonderful place, better than earth where there is no suffering
and no pain. In heaven, it is said that people’s heart is constantly filled with peace, love, and joy.
Heaven will not be a boring experience that drags on for all of eternity, but a place of external
loving, worshipping and sharing ("General Characteristics of Heaven"). Hell is considered to be
a place where humans are sent to pay for their sins, through suffering and enduring a lot of pain.
It is stated by for the wicked are reserved for the day of doom; the shall be brought out on the
day of wrath (Wellman). This indicates that for those who shall end up in hell will receive a lot

of torture; this will be like payback for the sins they have committed in their life. Thus, hell is
characterized to be a place where people suffer.
Heaven is said to be a place where there is a lot of light, due to the presence of angels and
holy beings. It has been stated that since Jesus Christ is characterized by light, we expect heaven
to be full of wonderful expression of light ("General Characteristics of Heaven"). The location of
heaven also gives an idea of how heaven is well lite due to the presence of heavenly bodies
emitting light. Hell, on the other hand, is characterized to be a place full of darkness where the
only source of light comes from the fire that is used to punish the evil. The darkness is also
associated with the evils, as evil events tend to take place in the dark.
Heaven is considered to be a place that is high above the earth, found somewhere in the
space beyond the vision of humans. When a human being dies and is considered to have gone to
heaven, they are said to have gone into heaven by rising up. For example, when Jesus went to
heaven, he ascended into heaven. The environment of Heaven is considered to be full of
freedom, which can be compared to that of space. On the other hand, hell is considered to be a
place below the earth surface, with an entrance on the earth. When a person is considered to go
to hell, they are said to be thrown into hell, as hell is a place somewhere down below the earth
surface. The environment of hell is darkness and high temperature, which is closely related to the
temperature below the earth surface.
Heaven is said to be a place where people are celebrating and rejoicing. People who
lived a righteous life during their lifetime are rewarded by going to heaven. Whatever we
consider being a joy here on earth will be heightened millions of time beyond anything we can
conceive when we get to heaven ("What Is Heaven Like?"). While hell is considered to be a
place where people who did not abide by the laws of religion are subjected to punishment. It has

been said that there will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence

As the people in heaven are said to be worshipping, praying and rejoicing through forever, the
people in hell are crying full of pain, suffering taking place in their entire life without an end.
In heaven, there is the presence of holy spirit, God and angles. The occupants of heaven
are considered to be good and holy. The people who go into heaven are pure, in that they do not
have any evil action related to them. The resurrection of the righteous will be unto everlasting
while the resurrection of the wicked will be unto condemnation and the wrath of God ("What Is
Hell Like? | Bibleinfo.Com"). Occupants in heaven have powers that help humans when in need
and also protect them from evil. Whereas the occupants in hell are said to be immoral including
Satan who is associated with an evil character. Satan is considered to have evil powers that can
corrupt any humans to be immoral. Events that are harmful and damaging to human beings are
associated with Satan’s power.
Heaven can be described to be a place where there is music, angels have been known to
sing. In heaven the occupants are said to be worshipping and praising God to their eternity,
heaven is expected to be a place full of music. This is a source of entertainment to the occupants
and a kind of luxury that is not present in hell. On the other hand, in hell the expectation is quite
different, as there is a lot of chaos, yelling and howling is what can be heard. As people are in
hell are in suffering, there is no source of luxury. The voice produced by the occupants as they
go through the agony and frustration, the sound they produce is rather disturbing. This makes the
condition in hell difficult to have any kind of luxury.
Both heaven and hell are considered to be a spiritual place; they built by supreme beings
with power that cannot be equated to the power of human beings. Heaven is a holy place that

only the righteous people will have an entrance in a spiritual form. Heaven is also composed of
holy spirits and angles which are spiritual beings. Hell is also a spiritual place, where the spirits
of immorality reside. These places cannot be physically located by human beings and are beyond
the influence of human powers.
Both occupants in heaven and hell are considered to be powerful beings, with greater
influence in human life. In heaven, God and angles can influence the lives of humans in a good
way and help them whenever they are in need. Satan is also considered to be influential in human
in that can make humans take immoral steps. Satan also has the power over humans, such that
Satan can administer punishment to the wrongdoers. Beings in both cases are spiritual and
powerful than human beings.
Heaven and hell are both places where human beings go, afterlife. On judgement day,
human beings, in the form of spirits, will either go to heaven or hell. Human beings can go to this
place only in the form of spirit as their bodies are left behind on earth. Ancestors are considered
to have gone to either of the places to leave life after death. Ancestors who were holy and
spiritually upright are said to have ascended to heaven, and they are celebrating together with
holy spirit in heaven.
