American history is filled with major events that have had a great impact on not only the
lives of the American citizens but made a mark on an international scale. The present paper
discusses the important historical and lifetime events and contrasts them to understand the
significance of the events. The following events are discussed in the paper that starts with a
comparison of the Gulf War and the Revolutionary War, Cold War and Moon landing, Vietnam
War and tech revolution, Iraq/Afghanistan War and the events of September 11, 2001and lastly
Civil War and JFK assassination.
The Gulf war, also known as Operation Desert storm, was a military operation where the
troops of the United States held the responsibility of taking out the Iraqi troops from Kuwait
(Hallion). The Revolutionary War was fought as the 13 American colonies wanted independence
from the British rule in order to become the United States (Sellick). Both the wars were a fight
against the unlawful and unfair annexation of the countries. They showed that it was necessary to
fight against the injustice of the usurpers. The difference between the two events is that the Gulf
War was a showcase of aggression while the other was the fight for the rights of the people who
deserved their lands to themselves.
The Cold War was a huge state of tension between the two most powerful states of the
world during the end of the World War 2, The United States of America and the Soviet Union
(Rose). The different ideologies of the two states, communism and democracy, drove a wedge
between the two countries and there arose a state of tension without war. Moon landing was a
significant event that turned the history of humankind upside down. Both the events showed the
power of human imagination and the great levels it can take one if only people dared to believe
in themselves and follow their dreams.

The similarities between the events of Vietnam War and the Tech revolution remain
uncanny. Both the events revolutionized the way the world thought about the ideologies on
which the world worked (Storey). One challenged the static ideology of communism while the
other challenged the static pattern and the lifestyle of the humankind. However, one difference
between the two events can be highlighted by the fact that while one showed the horrors of war
the other showed the beauty and the usefulness of the technology in the lives of human beings.
The similarities between the Iraq/Afghanistan war and the events of September 11, 2001
that the war was the consequence of the attacks on the twin towers on September 11. Both the
events had terrible consequences on the lives of the American and the Afghan citizens (Barry). In
both the events, thousands of innocent lives were lost. However, the difference was that one war
was fought to dismantle the dogmatic ideologies of a religious faction while the other was the
result of hatred buried in the minds of such people to hurt and spread terror in the minds of the
people.
The Civil War fought between the North United States and the Southern United States
was primarily fought to revolt against the enslavement of black people (Hall, Connor and Shiro).
The assassination of JFK led the people to stop believing in the government. The same can be
said for the events of the Civil War where the people had lost faith in the humanity and the
constitution of the country. Another similarity can be highlighted by the fact that the people of
the country were divided based on political ideologies. The difference between the two events
would be that one was the fight for a right while the other was the death of the ideologies that the
people stood for.
These events were selected because they portray the major historical significance that
shaped the future of America and is still inspiring the future generations. An analysis of these

events highlights the rights, freedom and the ideologies of the people that makes the country that
it is today.
Thus, in a nutshell, it can be concluded that the important historical and the lifetime
events of the American history have certain uncanny resemblance and similarities while they
differ along various lines. These comparisons highlight the importance of the events that shaped
the country into what it is today.
