Abstract
The thesis of the paper entails health care competency within an organization so as to ensure
quality service delivery to the patients. Competency can be defined as the ability or the capacity
to apply knowledge or skills in performing certain task successfully in their line of duty.
In health care organizations, through the management body do focus on the competency of the
workers in order to ensure better service delivery in local hospitals thus customers’ satisfaction
which ensures better health among the members of that particular community in which the
organization serve.

Competency assessment by the health care organization
Competency assessment is done by the overall managers or the human resource manager
within the health care organization so as to determine the skills and knowledge of each employee
so as to enhance better service delivery to their customers. Human resource manager can assess
their employee’s skills and knowledge formally using various tools as discussed in the context.
By giving employees test on their skills and qualifications, human resource managers will be
able to determine each employee’s ability and understanding of their professional requirements
based on their areas of specialization.
Through preparation of the self-assessment, the employer will be able to determine and
measure the understanding and qualifications of an employee. This is possible by giving out
questionnaire to the staff members which will require an individual response based on their area
of specialization as their competency will be determined through answers provided on the
questionnaire (Letourneau & Fater, 2015).
Measuring competency in health care organization
Competency can be measured or observed by the overall manager or the human resource
manager through exhibited behaviors by the staff member. It is through observation that will
enable one to identify the skills and knowledge used in performing certain duties, therefore each
employee must portray an objective and well documented behavior (Irwin, Bliss & Poole, 2018).
Since personal behavior comprises of three aspects that is skills, knowledge and attitude,
human resource managers are able to practically breakdown the behavior exhibited by the
medical practitioners in an observable and recordable manner thus successfully measures ones
competency.
