This report details the complete design of an I-beam subjected to specific loading conditions, as part of a mechanical engineering assignment. The report begins by outlining the problem statement and the chosen approach, which involves calculating reaction forces, drawing shear force and moment diagrams, and selecting a suitable I-beam section. Analysis is performed using both manual calculations and MDsolids software to determine stress distributions and ensure structural integrity. A W310 X 60 I-beam section made of S275 steel is selected, and the report calculates allowable stresses based on a specified factor of safety. Results and discussion sections compare calculated stresses with allowable limits and provide a factor of safety analysis. Appendices include supporting data and properties of the selected I-beam section. The report concludes that the design meets the required safety standards, demonstrating a successful beam design process for a structural engineering application.
