Employability of the modern day graduates is under ever increasing scrutiny and at
the same time, there is a wide range of agreement that what the students get out of a
particular degree program cannot be merely expressed in terms of the knowledge that they
have gained or the things that they have learned regarding their selected subject. In most of
the organisations or institutions, the competencies, attitudes and skills that the students
develop at their university are considered to be as the “graduate attributes”. This essay argues
on the notion that playing computer games do enhances a person’s employability.
Playing computer games do enhances a person’s employability. This is due to the fact
that all the game inventory juggling, puzzle solving, side quest grinding gives the group of
games some really transferable skills for their workplace. According to Flueggen, Doyle and
Veith (2018), the modern computer games like video games need players to be resourceful
and adaptable and at the same time, they also require finding out various ways for
accomplishing a particular task. Also, as per the recent study conducted by Flueggen, Doyle
and Veith (2018), playing games technology helps in developing graduate attributes. It also
has a positive impact on the communication ability, which is regarded to be the most
desirable competency within a candidate in modern day organisations. Moreover, this study
by him also suggests that the graduate attributes or graduate skills can be improved within a
shorter amount of time, representing just fourteen hours of playing game. Furthermore, Barr
(2017) have also suggested that playing videogames could positively impact on the
communication adaptability, resourcefulness and ability within the adult learners. This study
also suggests that the graduate skills could be improved in relatively shorter period of time.
Most of the contemporary computer games require the players to practise or exercise the
skills that are referred to as the graduate attributes and at the same time, they are fun and
highly engaging. It is also to note that these graduate attributes include adaptability,
communication skills and resourcefulness (Barr 2017). For instance, in most of the games,

the players need to communicate with the other players for succeeding in the team-based
multiplayer games. In such cases, they need to critically analyse the data and information that
are presented in front of them in order to solve the puzzles in game. In order to solve these
puzzles, the players need to be highly adaptable for facing the ever-changing challenges and
problems.
