Report
AI Summary
This report provides an overview of building a personal network for a computer lab, drawing insights from various video resources. The report begins by emphasizing the need for a router connected to an ISP, highlighting the importance of different subnets for the lab router. It then introduces fundamental networking concepts, including communication, topologies, and structured cabling. The report delves into subnet masking, TCP/IP protocols, switches, and VPNs, explaining their roles in network functionality and security. References to the videos used are also provided, offering a comprehensive guide to understanding and implementing a personal network in a computer lab setting. The report covers topics from basic networking to advanced concepts like VPNs.

1BUILDING A PERSONAL NETWORK
After watching many videos related to building personal for a computer lab, the
contents of these videos seem helpful. There are some of the videos those are related to
networking and its protocols.
Building personal network for computer lab
https://youtu.be/nrW8K9fE42Y
According to the video, to build a network for a computer lab a router is required. The
router which the client selects for lab networking must be connected to main router which is
ISP(Internet service provider),which in turn get linked to internet. While connecting the setup
the important thing that must be kept in consideration is lab router should be on different
subnets from others(digital byte computing). While connecting the ports ,the external port of
the lab router should be connected to same network of internal port of the main router.
Introduction of Networking
https://youtu.be/mYWsllbszYQ
This video helps to understand the concept of communication and networking in a
simple manner. Communication can be defined as exchange of information between two
devices trough some transmitting mediums. Networking is a process by which two or more
devices are connected for communication. For Networking, there are many type of
topology(3gvideo). Topology can be defined as different arrangements in which the
computers are connected with each other.
Network cabling
https://youtu.be/ldfKjIvC5B8

2BUILDING A PERSONAL NETWORK
Structured cabling can be explained as a system of cabling that can be moved and
changed as per needs of performing professional in different location. A structured cabling is
consist of six important parameters in which it works. The parameters are area of work,
backbone cabling, horizontal, facilities of entrance, telecommunication room and equipment
room(DINTEK australia,).
Subnet masking and addressing
https://youtu.be/nhGRUmtnGB4
Subneting is a process of fragmenting a larger network into smaller bunches so that
management of network traffic, which will, leads to increase the efficiency of network
performance. The subnet mask is a protocol which recipient IP address 32 bit value
differentiate between network IP address and host IP address(nptelhrd).
TCP/IP
https://youtu.be/zzXs0EnCin0
Protocols are defined as some predefined rule for communication, which help to
specify the communication between different attributes. When data is transferred from one
point to other point without any preset arrangement .IP and TCP is required.TCP
(Transmission control protocol) sole responsibility is break the information in small bunch
and regain it at the end and IP(Information protocol) provides the addressing
mechanism(nptelhrd).
Switches

3BUILDING A PERSONAL NETWORK
Switches in networking term can be explained as devices, which connect between
networks with the target client for messaging purpose. In telecommunication purpose, packet
switches are used for receiving and sending information .The operation of switches depends
on many layers of operating system (neptelhrd). When switches acts on layer 1 they are
called hubs and when they act in layer 3 they are known as router.
VPN
https://youtu.be/2sZ9biFQO0s
Virtual Private network is communication network where the data transmission and
networking occurs between the authenticated clients and no other can able to access that data.
Through VPN users staying in geographically remote area can communicate with any privacy
breaching as the data remain completely encrypted.VPN has another benefits that is it
generally block unauthorized entities to enter in VPN enabled network (Maddy's World).
