INTRODUCTION
Innovation can be defined as new idea or thought or new imagination which is in the
form of method or device. It is often referred as an application of better solutions which help in
meeting the new requirements or existing marketing needs. Technologies are evolving and new
concepts and designs are introduced in the modern world which has been beneficial for the
business and the industry (Shiau and Chau, 2016). There are various computing innovations
which keep on emerging and some of them are physical computing innovations, non-physical
computing software like apps, and also non-physical computing concepts like e-commerce.
Present report discusses about the latest innovations which took place in the field of technology
in recent years and also discusses about the success and failures of these innovation technologies
and there impact of the business and environment. This report also discusses about the
dependencies of environment on the developments which takes place in innovative technologies.

Technological innovations has really impacted the business which can help the organisations in
gaining the competitive advantage over others. There are various failures of the technological
innovation which can create problems for the business and this success and failures can be
mentioned as:
Success and failure of innovation technologies
Developments in technologies has been beneficial for the business world but there are
also various challenges faced by companies while development of these technologies. Such
success and failure can be discussed as follows:
Collaborative technologies: Collaborative technologies has brought convenience for the
organisations in organising meetings as one of the key success of collaborative technologies is
that it makes easier for the people to set team collaboration who are not at the same locations
(Wang, Jie and Chen, 2018). It has also made management of the projects easier for the
companies, with the ability to conduct meeting at anytime and from anywhere in the world this
technology has made it is easy for the companies to manage their team projects. It can also prove
cost saving for the company as conducting online meetings like video conferencing can save

travelling cost for the company, and increase the environmental sustainability by decrease of air
pollution through transportations. There are some challenges which are faced by companies due
to this technology for example network failure or equipment break down can bring huge
inconvenience for the members which are involved in video conferencing which may result in
lack of collaboration.
Web services: Web services has brought various benefits to the companies and has
enhanced the business process of the organisations. Web services which are offered to customers
has improved the business operations as through web service company and customer can
interact freely and post their orders. Also, company can post the information related to their
products and services which can influence the buying behaviour of the customers. It can also
help in environmental sustainability as it has decreased the usage of paper where data and
information can be sent and retrieved through web services which are offered by company (Ai,
Peng and Zhang, 2018). There are also some hindrances related to web services like creating a
web service should match the requirements of the customers as some customer may require
extra or little more features which nobody else may need. It requires huge investment for
developing a web service and also company has to avoid any changing methods which will
changes the customers perceptions. Also, early release of JAVA contained methods for
calculating data and time difference which could not be made to work properly.
Knowledge management: Knowledge management technologies has been successful for
various businesses as it has helped in developing organisational agility and has also enabled the
organisation to take proper and better decisions. It has also enabled companies to solves major
business problems by checking the previous records as huge amount of data can be stored online.
A company can retrieve such data in order to improve their business decisions (Den Hartigh and
et.al., 2018). This technology has also helped the organisation in making innovations within the
business for example; any transport company like TATA can check the previous records on
emission rate of their cars which can help the company to take decisions on how to decrease
emissions from cars. Knowledge management technology can also result in the better
communication which can increase the business process of the organisation (Knowledge
Management Tools. 2018). There are also some challenges which are faced by the organisation
related to knowledge management technologies like such technologies can be complex for
average workers and extracting of information can be tiring for the employees. Also,

organisation may fail to keep up with technologies of the knowledge management and may prove
costly for the organisation.
Decision Support System: DSS has brought huge benefits within various sectors and
helped organisations in solving the complex business problems faced by firms. DSS has reduced
the decision cycle time and has enhanced the decision making processes of the companies. It has
also increased the productivity of the employees (Yang and et.al., 2015). It has enhanced the
effectiveness of the organisation and has increased the quality of decision making. Developments
in DSS has helped most of the competitive organisations to gain the competitive positions in the
marketplace as this technology has allowed companies to take risks and has brought huge returns
for the company. Success of DSS can not be ignored but there are also some challenges which
are faced by the organisation due to DSS. One of the major challenge faced is difficulty in
quantifying all the data, as it relies on quantifiable data and it is difficult to analyse intangible
and indefinable data. Some data are not specific and are defined in numbers like customer
perception which creates difficulty in taking corrective decision. DSS is designed to meet
particular needs of decision makers and if one do not know what DSS does how can it help and it
is difficult to design new DSS to fit new needs.
Mobile Technologies: Developments in mobile technologies has brought best results in
every business sector and helped companies to bring higher efficiency and has increased the
productivity of staff. It has also brought high satisfaction to customers as development in mobile
technologies has increased the flexibility of the service which company offers to their customers.
Now customer can place order by using mobile apps and internet and customer can make
purchases from their home without visiting to shops. One of the major pitfall of this technology
is that new mobile technologies and devices are costly to purchase and also requires ongoing
maintenance and upkeep. It also brings additional IT security needs which may prove further
costly for the organisation. Also, such devices can be harmful for environment as these devices
releases dangerous toxins in air and water when burned or deposited. Also, its radiations can
harm other living beings like birds and insects like honey bee which will have adverse impact on
environment.

India comes under one of the biggest polluters of the environment across the world and it
is the task of the country to cut greenhouse gas emissions i.e. emission per unit of GDP. India is
one of the biggest emitter of harmful gases in the world after United States, European Unions
and China. India has made commitment cutting these harmful emissions by 33 to 35% in 2030.
For India technological innovations is very important for sustainable developments, so it is must
to focus on technology. Organisation once recognised the need for innovations with a purpose of
sustainable developments so for them it is evident what to should have done innovative in order
to maintain sustainability (Adams and et.al., 2016). New technologies can entail the social
changes so successful introduction of new technology in India is always a matter of social
change. It should be noted that new technologies like DSS can help various transportation
companies in India to help them in increase the environmental sustainability by increasing the
capabilities of DSS (Clinton and Whisnant, 2019). It can help in protecting human societies from
the hazards of nature like increase in greenhouse gases. Similarly in Health care sectors,
reduction of medical waste can be achieved through technological innovation which can be
achieved by end of pipe technologies. Companies with the help knowledge based technologies
can reduce the wastage as company will have the information about the products that are in stock
and can order or manufacture the required products based on customer research and preferences.
It is most useful of healthcare sectors where decrease in waste can protect environmental
degradations (Planko and et.al., 2016). Such technological innovation can provide environmental
sustainability, also recycling and re-use technology can also help in decrease in waste in the
healthcare sector which can bring waste products in re-use and this technology is termed as End-
of-pipe. Also, developments in future technologies can be beneficial for the environment and
also help in meeting the sustainable development goals in India. These efforts may include
maximising and harnessing the potential of technological innovations. For the organisations, in
order to work in the sustainable environments should be able to develop the technological which
will prove beneficial for the company without harming the environment. Most of the times
technological developments made by the company does not contribute towards environmental
sustainability but now need has raised for the companies to develop the environmentally
sustainable technology (Affolderbach and Schulz, 2016). Companies can make innovations in
their technologies like Mobile technologies by decreasing the harmful radiations emitted by
mobile which can prove beneficial for the society and proper disposal of wastes. Similarly,

companies can improve their web service technologies by providing required information to
customers and by decreasing the defaults in collaborative technologies which can further bring
environmental sustainability within the country. So, it is vital for the organisation to make
developments in technologies which will contribute towards the environmental sustainability.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the above report innovation in technologies can be beneficial
for organisation, customers and environment as well. With the advancement in technologies,
there are various innovation trends which are taking place that have an impact on the business
performance in various sectors. Present report also concludes that these innovations has been
successful for the businesses in various ways which has helped organisation to increase their
efficiency and productivity. It has also made business operations easy and flexible but there are
various challenges which are faced by organisation while developing these technologies like
cost, suitability, sustainability etc. Present report also concludes that it is important for the
organisations to develop the technologies which contributes to environmental sustainability.
