AI Summary
This report delves into the crucial role of project management within nursing informatics. It explores how project management is applied to optimize healthcare systems, enhancing efficiency and patient care. The report highlights the importance of project management skills for Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs), emphasizing the need for planning, problem-solving, and critical thinking throughout the project lifecycle. It outlines the different phases of a project, from initiation and planning to execution and monitoring, and stresses the necessity of managing resources and resolving conflicts. Furthermore, the report provides insights into how APNs can leverage project management to improve patient outcomes and support end-users. Concept of project management in nursing informatics
Project management is one of the important concepts of nursing informatics as it helps in
managing different information. Application of this concept helps nursing informatics to
improve the process of using system with the help of project team. Knowledge regarding this
concept helps nurses to set goals of a project and work with a team to achieve goals (Mantas
& Hasman, 2017). Effective project management skill helps nurses to manage a set of
information within minimum time and budget. This concept is applied to manage healthcare
information by nurses. Different project management software is there that helps to input
general information into the software to plan a project. Project management concept is
applied to optimize the process of handling system and it helps to improve efficacy to provide
care to patients.
Application of project management by APN
Advanced nurse practitioners (APN) needs different skills like planning, problem-solving and
critical thinking for applying project management in practice. During initiation phase of the
project, nurse practitioner needs to identify key requirements and objectives of a project.
Moreover, in planning phase, they need to collect different information as a resource and
provide to project team. Proper design of workflow helps in execution phase and during
monitoring phase, informatics and project management must continue simultaneously (Sipes,
2016). In this phase, nurse practitioner must ensure that resource conflicts are handled
properly. For achieving this, problem-solving and communication skill is essential. However,
job of an APN begins from here, by collecting the end result and apply it in practice that can
help to provide better support to end user.
