Good afternoon everyone! This is _____, and I am going to deliver a presentation on
conceptual frameworks, models, and theories that guide advance practice nursing.

We know that Advanced practice nurses (APN) are entitled with the responsibility of
delivering novel ways of distributing cost-effective care services and enhancing the access of
patients and families to qualified nursing practitioners. We should also note that these nurses
are responsible for delivering health care to the vulnerable and under-served populations.
APNs are expected to remain grounded in theory and investigation that guides them in their
clinical practice. While we work in collegial capabilities with the physicians, they need to be
equipped to identify and provide care to patients suffering from chronic and acute illnesses,
in addition prescribing medications. These errands need nursing professionals to adopt a
compassionate and caring approach.

Our second slide focuses on the conceptual framework for nursing. We have identified the
need to utilise a harmonized nursing conceptual framework with the aim of ensuring that all
APNs have a systematic understanding of what their profession is and what advanced nursing
care entails. Notwithstanding the level of educational attainment, selection of a conceptual
framework based on ‘person’ will allow APNs to have adequate for determining the skills
and knowledge that are expected of them. Kindly note that the conceptual framework of
person and/or human being focuses on defining a singular individual based on specific
attributes that define the person with respect to the nursing scenario and focuses on a
thorough monitoring of the disease that is being treated. In the following slide, I will further

elaborate on the parameters and aspects that are encompassed within this conceptual
framework.

In this slide, I will discuss about the essential prerequisites for caregiving process, in
accordance to the conceptual framework that I illustrated in the previous slide. I would like to
mention that this component of conceptual framework will be addressed by demonstrating
respect and accountability and commitment towards the interventions that are being
implemented on the patient. Display of adequate clinical knowledge must be accompanied
with strategies of humanization that will help in providing care to the patient by taking into
account his preferences and demands. We also need to align our care giving process with the
values of the patients, which in turn can be achieved by displaying necessary interpersonal,
cognitive, and psychomotor skills that considers all clients as unique entities. The personal
beliefs, faith and attirbutes of the patients will be considered, followed by share and
exchanging necessary information with the patient and his family members.

I would like to discuss a model that forms the basis of nursing practice. My clinical expertise
and knowledge helped me learn that the Health promotion model is based on snowballing the
level of wellbeing among all patients. The model defines the multidimensional character of
individuals as they work together within their milieu for pursuing health. It focuses on three
major areas namely, individual physiognomies and involvements, behaviour-related affect
and cognitions, and social outcomes. We should also note that the model underlines that each
individual has unique features that may create an impact on their actions. The fixed variables
for behaviour-detailed information and affect have significant motivational implication. The
variables can also be adapted through implementation of proper nursing actions. Hence,

health endorsing behaviour is the anticipated behavioural consequence, which creates the end
point for the selected model.

In this slide we will discuss the four important assumptions of the health promotion model
that we learnt about in the previous slides. The four assumptions are:
1. Persons seek to enthusiastically control their own conduct.
2. Persons, with respect to all their biopsychosocial intricacy, interrelate with the setting,
increasingly altering the situation, as well as being changed over time.
3. Healthcare specialists, such as, nursing professionals, form a significant portion of the
social environment that exerts an effect on individuals over their life span (Kamran,
Azadbakht, Sharifirad, Mahaki & Mohebi, 2015)
4. Reconfiguration of the individual-environment communicating patterns that is self-
initiated, is indispensable for altering behaviour.
I also want to emphasise on the fact that health-promoting behaviour is the action
consequence focused on accomplishing an enhanced health effect such as, personal
fulfilment, optimum wellbeing, and productive living.

This slide focuses on a theory that is pertinent to the conceptual framework and model
discussed in the previous slides. I would like to state that the theory places due emphasis on
the conviction that patients are able to grow in a creative and healthy manner. Selection of the
theory can be accredited to the fact that this method of nursing places an importance on the
nurse-patient association, where both individuals create an impact on the consequence of the
nursing mediations (Khademi, Mohammadi & Vanaki, 2017). I would also like to highlight
the major attribute of this nursing theory, which is based on the connection between the

patient and the nurse plays an important role in the healing and recuperation of the former. In
addition, humanistic nursing also focuses on development of the nurse-patient relationship, in
relation to the mental and physical health of the patient.

In this slide I will elaborate on the humanistic nursing theory. This theory had been
implemented in a qualitative research that focused on gaining a sound understanding of the
existential experiences of cancer patients. It stated that paediatric palliative care nurses must
care for the affected children grounded on a humanistic visualisation, while respecting the
values and beliefs of the children and family members, in their psychological, spiritual,
physical, and social aspect. On adoption of a humanistic approach in palliative care nursing in
Korea, researchers also found a significant improvement in communication skills and attitude
of the patients towards death. Hence, if we adopt a humanistic approach, we can eliminate
negative perceptions and attitudes among patients.

This slide illustrates the aims and objectives of the theory and I would like to highlight that
while applying this theory to practice, we need to take efforts to determine our association to
all patients who are currently being provided care, and the prominence that both of us are
inimitable individuals, who work towards accomplishment of a common goal. Fostering an
open and compassionate interaction is imperative to its implementation in practice. The
advanced practice nurse must also adorn the role of a reliable presence for all patients. On
accurately implementing the theory, we will be able to expand the nursing roles to embrace
additional willing parties such as, patient family, colleagues, friends, and allied medical staff.

Let us look at the graphical representation presented in the slide. We should take into
consideration the fact that the ideology of humanism focuses on placing a great value on
human culture, human beings, and the human experiences. In recent days, implementation of
humanism in health care places an emphasis on the fact that recovery from illness, and the
concepts of living and dying, form an essential measure of the entire patient experience. All
individuals associated with the health system primarily, the patients and the caregivers should
be considered foremost as human beings. The diagrammatic representation also suggests that
we should demonstrate compassion towards our clients, since an empathetic and
compassionate approach plays the role of a powerful catalyst for patient healing. This theory
is congruent with the health promotion model since it is based on behavioural outcomes,
individual experiences and characteristics, and behaviour-precise affect and cognition of
patients. In addition, owing to the fact that conceptual model also focuses on the presence of
unique personal experiences and characteristics of all patients that creates a substantial
impact on their deeds and health outcomes, advanced nursing practice must take into
consideration all variables that are associated with specific affect and knowledge.
