offered in the school to the kids. But because of COVID-19, the schools are closed and these
kids are not getting food that they used to receive through the school programme. The
Nutrition4Kids feeds around 511 children in around 25 schools across the region. The
Nutrition4Kids has only three members and depend on the volunteers for packaging and food
delivery. During the survey, our corporation found that Nutrition4Kids’s total cost for last year
was $250,000, which includes administrative and staff cost of around $135,000. The amount of
$115,000 was spent on food for children. The organisation was able to collect $325,000 previous
year, from which $70,000 came from fund raising, $85,000 came from donation and $170,000
was collected through government funds. Since, the collected amount was bigger than the total
cost, so the remaining amount was carried forward in the coming year’s budget.
The second organisation we investigated was Food Bank of Waterloo Region. This organisation
started in 1984 and it aims at distributing food to the needy with the help of community
partnerships. According to them, out of 20 people, one person finds it difficult to access to food.
Last they distributed around 4.5 million of food among the poor and needy which was around 4.5
million food to around 34552 poor people. We found from the website of the organisation that
previous year they had total revenue of around $1.5 million. Which is a huge money. But from
this amount, $12 million was spent on the food and was distributed among the needy. The
remaining amount which was $3.5 excluding the $12 million, from this $2.5 million was raised
through donations and $ one million was raised through local government and other agencies.
They spend $3 million on staffs, administration and fundraising. Around $200,000 is spend on
purchasing food every year and $300,000 on building cost. They have 18 staffs but have over
3000 volunteers and supports more than 100 community programs and agencies by providing
food to them for distribution. But one thing we noticed that they do not maintain proper
statistical figure of their distribution but the organisation mentioned that 25% people receiving
food are children of age 0 to 11 years, 10% include adolescents of age 12 to 17, 22% are
of age between 18to 30, 20% are from age group 30 to 44, 19% are between 45 to 64 and 4%
were above 65 of age.
The third organisation investigated by our corporation is Supportive Housing of Waterloo. This
is new among the two selected organisation and is functioning from 2007. This organisation
provide housing at affordable and reasonable rates and also provide assistance to those people
who are homeless especially during the outbreak of COVID-19. The organisation has only 6
staffs but they receive aid from many volunteers and also welcomes student volunteers for
campaigns. With the donation amount, it has opened two buildings for needy people. They
also provide tenants basic health care, monetary support, leisure opportunities and protection
against hazards. They also provide food to them. They have total expense of $825,000. Out of
which $85,000 is spent on tenants programs, $540,000 is spent of administration and staff cost
and $200,000 on building rent. Their last year collection was $825,000 of which $550,000 was
received by government and agencies, $225,000 raised through renting and $50,000 from
fundraising.
