·INTRODUCTION
Conference and banqueting refers to the group of people who are coming for the
particular purpose such as meetings, entertainment, get-together and social purposes etc. It is
considered to as a sector of the hospitality industry. There are various types of events which are
held at various places and venues in the world at daily basis which make this industry a global
industry (Yaduma and et. al., 2015).
This report will highlight the size and scope of the C&B industry. It will also tell about
the factors which affects the development of the industry. It will also describe about the strategic
and operational issues. It will also demonstrate the performance and quality review techniques
used by the industry.
Under this report, a company whose name is “Service On A Plate ” who is catering
company. This company is going to organize a banquet event for his one of the client for the
business purpose.

Size of the C&B industry in UK
Conference and Banqueting industry is one of the sub-industry in hospitality industry,
which is one of the biggest industry in the world. Also, C&B industry is a truly global industry
which has seen rise since its inception (Seal and Mattimoe, 2017). UK is considered to be the top
most lovable venue for the event organizers. C&B industry started in 17th century which is till
now developing with the change in technologies and trends of the customers. The revenue for
this industry is around £1.4 billion which is generated by around 6,500+ businesses in the UK.
This industry has given employment to around 27,900+ employees.
Scope of the C&B in UK
Scope of the conference and banqueting industry is spreading with the development of
the industry. This industry is in its boom stage due to a lot of technological changes and
advancement (Rahimi, 2017). This industry is also known as Meeting, Incentives, Conferences
and Exhibition (MICE). This sector arrange and organize various kinds of events which are as
follows – Outdoor events, exhibitions & trade shows, music festivals & concerts, Sports events,
conferences & meetings, festival events, social events and charity events etc. These events are

held at various venues which are as follows – hotels & restaurants, outdoors, marquees, marriage
gardens, stadiums, art galleries, conference centres, banquet halls and clubs & bars etc.
lAC 1.2 Analysis the factors which impact the development of the industry
There are various external factors which is related to the business environment and affect
the development of the business which in turn impact the whole industry. Thus, analysis of such
external factors and their impact on the business activities are important for the business and it is
done by strategic tool which is known as Pestle Analysis (Mueller, 2016).
Pestle analysis of the C&B industry
Political factor
Example of political factors are tax policies, framing of legislations, political stability,
monetary policy and government supports etc. Change in tax policy will affect the industry's
development as it impact the revenues of the companies working under the C&B industry.
Economic factor
Example of economic factors are economic cycle of the country, interest rates, inflation
rates, buying pattern of the customers, demand and supply of the customers and foreign
exchange rates etc. Change in interest rate will affect the capital structure of the companies
which in turn impact the growth of the industry.
Socio-cultural factor
This is the major factor which affect the industry directly. Events are organizing
according to the taste, culture and perceptions of the customers. Change in these aspects will
affect the trending of the industry.
Technological factor
Technological factors are such as lighting and sounding systems, computer aided systems
and another systems which keeps changes with the technological advancement. This will affect
the way, events are organized by the company which will influence the revenue of the
companies which in turn affect the whole industry.
Legal factor
There are various legislations which is related to the environment, license permission,
business, employees and customers etc. which affect the business activities. These legislations
are come under the legal factors which helps companies to run its business in a legal framework

affect the growth of C&B industry. Chosen of right venues depends upon the environmental

The event organisation company name, “Service On A Plate ” is organizing Banquet for
its one of the clients for the business purpose. In order to plan, arrange and implement that
business banquet, event organisation has to face a lot of strategic and operational issues which
are such as -
Non maintenance of function sheet
Function sheet is the document which is being used during the planning and arrangement
of the events by the companies. Due to non-maintenance of function sheet, Company has to face
strategic and operational issues such as improper arrangement of entertainment activities such as
dance, music and game, lack of amount of foods, and lack of proper arrangement of the seats for
the guests etc. (Gruenfeldova, Domijan and Walsh, 2019).
Excess of expenditure
Budget is an important function for any companies as it helps in get to know about their
expenditure done by the company itself. Due to high expenses done by the company, the whole
budget get unbalance which lead to bad impression of the company in the mind of clients.
Low maintenance of booking dairy
Booking dairy is a dairy which is kept by various companies for the reminder of the
organizing the events on decided date. Low maintenance of such dairy lead company to forget
the right date for the organisation of the events which creates a lot of confusions and incurred of
the costs.
Lack of knowledge of legislations regarding events
Legislations keep change with the time and change in government. These changes must
be known by event companies for the betterment of the arrangement and organisation of the
events. Due to lack of knowledge of legislations, company has to face a lot of legal actions
which lead to decrease in the brand image too (Faraji and et. al., 2019).

For the enhancement of the brand image, companies under the C&B industry has to take
care of their performance and quality of the events which they organized for their clients. Thus,
there are various performance and quality review techniques which is being used by the C&B
industry as well as by the company “Service On A Plate ”. These techniques are as follows -
Table Arrangement Review
Table arrangement refers to the seating arrangement which is done for the guests'
comfort. It can be review by the space utilization of the venue. Space should be enough for the
movement of the guests and for the proper placement of the equipments at the site. Also, it can
be review by the guests' experiences and feedbacks too.
Transport Review
Here, transport refers to the accessible of the venue location. The venue should be at the
place where every guests can be easily accessible to that place without any confusion. Also, it
can be review by the behaviour of drivers who have the responsibilities of picking up and
dropping the guests at their destinations.
Budget Review
Budget refers to the plan of expenses which will be incurred by the company for the
organisation of the events. All the activities should be done according to the taste & standards of
the clients and guests and that tastes & standards are should be reasonable within the budget
prepared by the company.
Clients and Guests Satisfaction Review
Clients and guests are the core of any kinds of the events as well as company who is
arranging the events. Thus, performance and quality of the events should be reviewed by their
satisfaction level which can be measure by various techniques such as feedback techniques,
questionnaire techniques and cards techniques etc. (Charloux and et. al., 2016).
