INTRODUCTION
Conference and Banqueting management is one of the difficult task of hospitality sector.
It refers to arrangement of events, or different forms of get-together like ceremony, family
events, birthday, celebrations etc. Traditional meaning of Banqueting management is all about
food and beverages services to group of people who gathered for some occasion or events. Such
type of management is also called as event management (Hurrell and Scholarios, 2011). This
sector contributes a major part of revenue for UK and has wide scope. Businessmen from all
over world travel to nation for attending conferences, meetings and fairs related to trade.
Planning an event with various issues and considering management of same is not an easy work.
Thus, Conference and Banqueting sector plays a vital role for hospitality sector. Country has
seen great amount of growth and development in this sector. Through this research, evaluation
can be done regarding conference and banqueting sector.

1.1 Size and scope of conference and banqueting industry in the UK
Conference and Banqueting management deals with event management. It is one of the
fastest growing sector in United Kingdom. People from all over world come and attend different
events, business conferences and ceremonies. This sector involves different hospitality
industries, event management companies, Pubs etc. UK is strong competitor in conference and
banqueting industry and employed large number of banqueting managers each year. Conference
and banqueting is a department in hotel and restaurants that manage events and trade fairs.
Size and Scope of Conference and banqueting industry- the size and scope of
conference and banqueting management are of utmost importance for a country. This sector
contributes to generate enormous revenue to a nation. Conference and banqueting is one such
sector which helps in contributing to other sector also. Conference and Banqueting sector is also
growing with an increase in hotel industry. This overall helps in conference and banqueting
industry to grow and make severe impact on hostel industry. Also travel and tourism sector is
helping this sector a lot. Visitors from all over globe are travelling to United kingdom (Davis and
et. al., 2013). These events management directly influence thoughts of visitors and spread
positive word of mouth about Conference and banqueting industry. The attendance of visitors at
different events in a country was around 98 million in 2013. This data is enough to show how

and banqueting operations management have utmost importance for a nation. The job of
conference and banqueting manager is difficult as they have to plan strategies and organise
events in an appropriate manner according to clients requirements. This industry is growing
rapidly and making its impact in other sectors also. Conference and banqueting operation is
growing with the support from other industry. UK is known for its business opportunities and
visitors from different part of world come for exploiting such opportunities. It is considered as
one of the best business destinations. This all helping conference and banqueting industry to grab
opportunities and generate revenue from the same. It has been estimated that around 1.5 million
corporate meeting held in nation each year. This all describes vast scope of conference and
banqueting industry. The conference and banqueting is all about how well events are being
organised and its importance. (Morgan, 2010).
1.2 Different influences that have shaped Conference and Banqueting industry
There are various factors that influence development and growth of Conference and
Banqueting industry. Factors such as Political, Economic, Socio-Cultural, Technical,
Environmental and Legal are affecting this industry in various ways.
Political Factors- Political factors influencing industry in a bigger way. Rules and
regulations and freedom for companies are laid down by government in order to make economic
balance in country. The political aspects on business activities as well as investment criteria by
outsiders have a huge impact.
Economic factors- Economy of United Kingdom has been growing over the years, as a
result other sectors also have more opportunities. Further, failure of business in parent nation and
presence of wide range of facilities and services will definitely attract businessmen from
different part of globe to invest in UK (Pantelidis, 2012). As a result businesses are being set up
in UK and more Conferences are arranged by such organisation. This all help industry to expand
its boundaries and generate revenue for UK. Thus economic factors have their own importance
in conference and banqueting operations management.
Socio-Cultural factors- History always attracts people. United Kingdom has a great
history, people also like to visit such a place with great opportunities in the areas of medical,
education and businesses. Thus, these all attract wide range of people from globe. Also safety is
most important component of travel and tourism industry. UK is always concerned about their

people safety as well as special care is given to visitors. Crime rate is also lesser as compare to
other nations. The cultural aspects also plays key role.
Technical factors- Technological innovation has impacting Conference and Banqueting
industry in a large manner. More meeting and conferences are being organised in order to deal
with technological changes. Since country is known for its IT technology work so, proper
consideration needs to be given for technological advancement.
Environmental factors- Destination will definitely impact businesses. Environmental
conditions are always plays a key role in deciding destination for business (Rahimi, 2017). So,
environmental factors also impacting conference and banqueting industry. UK government
helped a lot in changing environmental outlooks through its infrastructural development and
other amenities.
Investment and starting new businesses are not easy for foreigners. Therefore, it will
result in reduction of number of visitors for starting new businesses. Thus, this factors also
influencing conference and banqueting industry (Archer, 2010).
CONCLUSION
By this Report, it has been concluded that Conference and Banqueting industry has wide
range of scope in UK. This sector contributes a major part of revenue for GDP. Businessmen
from all over world travel to country for attending conferences, meetings and trade fairs. Thus, it
is not easy for Conference and Banqueting managers the deal with the same. Effective strategies
and plans are made by them to handle such tasks. UK has seen growth in Conference and
Banqueting sector which overall helps in development of other sectors. Conference and
banqueting also helping in development of travel and tourism industry. The industry has been
developed within last few decades. However, influenced by different factors and criteria. Thus,
Conference and banqueting manager should consider all these factors and plan their strategies
accordingly.
