DISCUSSION 2
Life as a Parent of Children with FASD
Students’ behavior is a very significant thing to both the teachers and the parents. In a
case where the student is misbehaving, the teachers and parents should jointly discuss and
consider the best help for the student (Michaud, 2015). There are also a number of institutional
policies that have been put in place to curb issues of indiscipline among students. In this case, I
think that the teacher should not tell the parent who her children have been leaving with from
school. The teacher should only mention that there is an unwanted behavior in that the student is
leaving early from school and that she doesn’t return for classes.as a parent with a child with
FASD, it is important to ensure that you spend quality time with your child in order to
understand them and be in a position to correct the child. Being the other parent however, I
would be not that pressing to know who my kid has been leaving with but at the same time I
would ask. From the teacher’s side however, I wouldn’t tell the two about each other since the
administration does not comply with such rules and the policy about the same is clear.
There is a lot of information that I would need to know about this situation. As the
teacher, I would want to know about the whole situation and what is it that the two students
engage in after leaving. Besides, I would enquire more on the various reasons why the students
leave school. I would also be interested in more information about the engagements of the
parents in this and if the two students have talked to their parents about and what they think
about such behavior (Reid & Moritz, 2019). From the parents’ side however, I would be very
interested to know more information especially about how this has been going on for. I would
also want to know the kind of behavior that the other kid has in order to see and evaluate the kind
influence they might have in my kid. On the same note, I will also be willing to get the specific
explanations on where they go and what they do and if the teachers know for how long this has

been going on. It is important for the teachers and parents to be patient and calm when discussing
these issues with students. They should do so by engaging to the students and letting they
understand the values and principles that are positive for their future.
Definitely, the situation and my decision will change after knowing that the student who
she has been leaving with was a drug-dealer and a known distributor. It would change in that I
would not even be willing to discuss such a case at first due to the circumstances of my daughter
and the kind of engagements that she had in her life. Having a drug-dealer or a former convict in
her life would weaken her behavior considering her state. As a teacher, this information would
also change my thinking and the way I evaluate the situation. This is because peer pressure is
very common among students of the same age.
Discussion Responses
Student One
It is good that you have taken such a positive attitude towards the situation. I agree with
you that trust is one of key attributes that will play a major game in this situation. I also admire
your engagement with the situation as demonstrated in the questions that you ask yourself. On
the same note, I find it awesome in the direction you take pertaining the issue of reporting
information between the students, their teachers, and also the parents.
Student Two
The flow of your discussion is clear about which side you take in terms of decision to
make in this situation. In this case, I also think that been validated and confident in what you
think, talk, and act is a key factor to solve the issue. I think that you clearly and amazingly
consider the truth of the matters at hand, the information been passed about the students, and the

credibility of the same information. In addition to this, I also think that you do not put human
weaknesses into consideration more so when it comes to issues such as FASD.
