INTRODUCTION
Conflicts are defined as the activity of disagreement between two or more people who are
opposing each other opinions and principles. Basically, it is the clash of interests. It is the serious
disagreement as well as argument between people about something. In this report a case study
and relative answers are being covered.
TASK
What is your understanding of conflict in this situation? Explain on the basis of definition of
conflict and analyse this conflict as you see it.
Conflict of disagreement: Conflict of disagreement is in the case of Josh and Regina as
both are working within same organisation and both are not agreed upon each-other opinions. As
Josh offered as proposal to Regina and she refused to accept the proposal. Josh is the middle
managers of organisation so, he threatened to Regina to fire her from respective organisation as
well. Here, the conflict is raised between them because of disagreement.
As conflicts are determined as the serious disagreement between two or more people and groups
because of differences in their opinions and thinking that creates depression at work place. In the
case of Josh and Regina a disagreement is take place due to differences in their point of views
and thinking because of that Regina have to leave her job as well (Balcells, and Sullivan, 2018).
This situation made Regina distressed and she put claim unfair dismissal and sexual harassment
against to Josh and demanded compensation.
What are the interests of the parties?
Here two parties are involved in this case is Josh and Regina.
Josh interest- The Josh wants to solve this conflict as soon as possible as and want to come out
of this situation because It may affect his family relation. It does not want that their wife or
children get to know about this matter with Regina (Cronin, and Bezrukova, 2019). If get
frighten to lose his family and want to settle down this matter by compensating money $10,000.
Going court is not good for reputation so that it takes help from boss, brother-in-law in arranging
compensation or settlement by money.
Regina interest- The Regina wants to go in a court so that she can claim more money
from Josh as it facing lost of unemployment situation. But going court will cost more that is why
It wants to settle down with medium source.

What is a possible agenda? How does it relate to the interests of the parties?
Agenda of Josh- The main possible agenda of josh is to get out of rid this situation without
going court because this will affect the relation and image in front of his wife, children. The
compensation settlement amount is more so it takes support from brother-in-law that is boss of
his company (Feeney and Karantzas, 2017). But company is not happy as more money is getting
waste to resolve this conflict.
Agenda of Regina- The main agenda of Regina is to deal with unemployment situation
and charge more settlement amount from Josh so that it would help in get rid out of this
situation. Going court charge more cost so, it also wants to settle down this matter by medium
source.
Both the parties try to resolve as it may affect the image of both individual as well as career wise
is not good for them to take this Matter into the court.
What options are available, and do they reflect the interests of the parties?
In order to resolve conflict is effective manner there are various options are available such as
they can solve the issue by doing personal settlement by compensating Regina for her discomfort
and stress or they can take legal advice by taking to issue to court. Both options are somewhere
related to the interest of both parties like legal advice is beneficial for Regina that provide her
compensation of $20000 and solve the issue in legal manner (Hjerto and Kuvaas, 2017). On the
other hand, personal settlement is beneficial for Josh because he wants to settle the matter quietly
and quickly as he don’t want to raise the issue in public that affect his wife and family as well.
Appropriate option is being selected that satisfy both parties as well as their relative interests.
What strategies as mediator you can use to assist the parties?
There are various strategies are applied or suggested to resolve conflict in effective manner
through satisfying both parties. BATNA strategy is being suggested that is stand for selecting
best alternative to negotiate agreement. As in the case of Josh as Regina there are various
alternatives are available to resolve the issue such as they go to court to get solution of conflict or
they can adopt mediation option to settle the issue through compensating Regina for her
discomfort. As there are different alternatives are available to solve the conflict in effective
manner. As Josh do not to drag the issue to court that make it public and affect his family as well
on the other hand, Regina also agreed to take compensation to end the discussion (Hu, 2017). So,
in my opinion the personal settlement by compensating is the best option to resolve the issue as

well as it fulfill requirement of both parties (Overall and McNulty, 2017). They have to negotiate
the compensation amount accordingly and solve conflict in effective manner.
What would be a likely outcome for the parties that would satisfy their needs and why?
In order to resolve issue both parties are negotiated on available options and select the way that
satisfy the needs as well as requirements of both parties such as mediation settlement by raising
compensation amount to $20000. The option is able to parties because Josh do not want to drag
the issue in public and Regina want her desirable compensation amount. After solving the
conflict Regina will not continue work with organisation and search another job that provide
effective working environment, conditions as well as opportunities to ensure career growth and
development (Wang, Zhang and Deng, 2019). Both parties Josh and Regina is satisfied with the
settlement that ensures effectively resolve the issue as well as maintain their dignity and
reputation in society.
CONCLUSION
As per above report, it can be concluded that conflicts are the disagreement between two or
more parties that affect their performance level. These conflicts are resolved by applying
effective strategies and policies that satisfied both parties.
