AI Summary
This report delves into the impact of construction claims on road projects in Uganda. It begins by establishing the research philosophy and strategy, highlighting the use of a pragmatic approach and qualitative research methods for data analysis. The study focuses on understanding the types and causes of construction claims, and how they affect the performance of road projects. The methodology includes the analysis of textual materials, peer-reviewed articles, and credible newspaper articles. The report also includes a review of relevant literature, addressing the purpose, research questions, methods, data, strengths, weaknesses, and implications of selected journal articles. The research aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the challenges and consequences of construction claims within the context of Uganda's road infrastructure projects, offering valuable insights for project management and stakeholders.

On the basis of the research questions and the research objectives
which had been formulated for the study, the researcher intends to take the
help of the pragmatic research philosophy. Wiek and Lang (2016) are of the
viewpoint that the most important assumption made by the pragmatic
research philosophy is the fact that the usage of a single perspective or
viewpoint cannot help the researchers to effectively analyze the research
topic that they have selected for analysis in their study. Adding to this,
Basias and Pollalis (2018) have noted that the researchers taking the help of
this particular research philosophy are thus required to take the help of
multiple or different perspectives, viewpoints and others for the analysis of
their research topic. This in turn helps the researchers to substantially
improve the quality of their study by analyzing their research topic from
different perspectives (Kumar 2019).
The researcher had opted for the usage of the qualitative research
strategy for the analysis of the research topic of this study. Bell, Bryman
and Harley (2018) are of the viewpoint that the usage of the qualitative
research strategy offers the opportunity to the researchers to analyze the
research questions of their study through the usage of the secondary data
related to the same. Adding to this, Quinlan et al. (2019) have noted that this
helps the researchers to analyze their research questions through the usage
of different perspectives, theoretical models, frameworks and others which in
turn help them to improve the quality of their study. In this relation, it can be
said that the usage of the qualitative research strategy and the pragmatic

research philosophy would complement each other and thereby will help the
researcher to effectively complete the study. It is in the light of these
aspects, that the researcher had opted for the usage of the pragmatic
research philosophy and the qualitative research design.
On the basis of the research strategy which had been selected for the
study the two most important data collection methods which are available to
the researcher are textual materials or peer-reviewed articles and the
credible newspaper articles. Ghauri, Grønhaug and Strange (2020) are of
the viewpoint that the most important advantage of the usage of the textual
materials or the peer-reviewed articles can be attributed to the fact that the
information offered by them have already been validated by the past
scholars and thus the researchers do not have to worry about the credibility
or the reliability of the same. However, an important disadvantage
associated with the usage of textual materials is the fact that the information
offered by them is not always completely relevant to the study which is
being undertaken by the researchers and thus they need to undertake a
thorough analysis of the same for the selection of the relevant information
(Gray 2019). On the other hand, the advantage of using credible newspaper
articles is the fact that they are recent and complied by some of the best
professional experts (Sekaran and Bougie 2016). However, at the same time
it needs to be said that they are not always reliable in nature and therefore
cannot be used without testing the authenticity of the same through the
usage of primary or firsthand data (Delen and Zolbanin 2018). These in short

are some of the most important advantages and disadvantages of the data
collection methods that had been selected by the researcher on the basis of
the qualitative research strategy which will be used within the study.
