Introduction
In this report, we have to discuss the importance of construction information and how to use
construction information in a real-life project. In the LO1 we have to evaluate and analyze
different types of construction and how to implement the use of construction in building a small
office. In LO2 we have to detail out the design, drawing, and specification so that construction
project goes perfectly.
In LO3 we have to determine all calculations and measurements so that report can be analyzed at
any point of time in construction and measurements can be revised or rechecked. In LO4 we will
asses the ways in which construction information will help in using the software like CAD and
BIM. Also, we will compare the details and merits of CAD and BIM.

LO1 Evaluate different types of construction information in the context of
diverse project types
(a) Use of construction information:
Behind any successful project of any kind there is certain information that helps the people
involved in the project. This concept is the same in construction projects too. Construction
information plays a very significant role before starting the project. If there is a building to be
built or any kind of construction to happen then the first important step is to provide the
contractor with detailed information about the project. Construction information includes key
points like project plan, management of project, safety and health rules and regulations.
(Oakland, 2017)
(b) Different types of construction information:
There are 5 different types of Construction
Type 1: Type 1 includes using steel along with concrete for building the structure. This
type is most common with the projects which include huge building. IBC Tables 601
covers these types of building which are made of non-combustible materials.
Type 2: This type includes the use of steel or concrete in building floor, walls, etc. which
is in many ways like type 1 of construction information.
Type 3: using bricks and joist for building a roof, floor, etc. falls under this type of
construction. The structural framework is made from wood, which is considered a
combustible material. IBS Section 2303.0 covers type 3 category buildings.
In this case study we have to build a small building in a local industrial park., so according to
concepts of construction information, type 2 of construction information will be the best type
suitable for this construction project. Also, type 2 will provide us with useful information for
this project.
(c) Compare different types of construction information:
In the above section, we have discussed that construction information is very useful in any
type of construction project whether it is building, site, etc. and to make sure everything goes
according to plan we have five different types of construction information. Each type has its
own category of buildings. Type 1 includes steel a concrete for building the structure, type 2
includes steel and concrete for building walls and floors, etc. in type 4 the outside is made
from concrete and the interior is made of wooden framework. Type 5 buildings are made
from wood (Walker, 2015).

Cost project (Approx.) 16000 * 5 Storey
(c) Compose a schedule of works:
The regimen of the job is the tool list or the amounts generated during the projects or when
the change in the job is expected. Work schedule could be used as an option rather than the
quantity bill to enable retail prices for both the products used. For example, solving
timetables such as gates, suitable headlamps, doors, hydrants, marbles, blinds, and the
operates of the construction workers (Sacks, 2013).
(d) Justify the use of specifying types of construction information:
For this project, I have chosen the Type 2 category of construction information. In our case
study, it is given that we have to build a small building. Type 2 category construction
information is suitable for buildings which are beneficiated by use of steel materials or the
concrete materials. Considering what kind of building we are constructing we are going to
need materials that can help to construct a steady building with a strong foundation (Zhang,
2013).

LO3 Interpret different types of construction information in order to explain
a construction project
(a)Relate a set of construction drawings to a specification:
All these measurements are approx.
(a) Area size of floor = 105 feet – 5 5 / 6 inch to 186 feet – 6 1 / 4 inch
(b) Size of cubicle = 32 inch – 10 3 / 8 inch to 84 feet – 6 13 / 16 feet
(c) Size of office room= 34 feet – 5 3 / 16 inch to 49 feet – 4 11/ 16 inch
(d) Size of Cubicle = 78 feet – 2 5 /8 inch to 29 feet – 3 1 / 2 inch
(e) Size of Conference room= 64 feet – 8 7 / 16 inch to 37 feet – 11 3 / 4 inch
(f) Area size of lift = 33 feet – 4 3 / 4 inch to 25 feet – 7 3 / 4 inch
(g) Area size of reception = 21 feet – 5 1 / 16 inch to 13 feet – 9 3 /4 inch
(h) Length of Door 1 = 28 feet – 7 7 / 8 inch
(i) Length of Door 2 = 12 feet – 7 5/ 16 inch
(b)Evaluate construction drawings and details:
Listed below are some errors which can happen during drawing:
1. Hall area wastage
2. At the individual gates very short number of the construction workers can sit.
3. Making office room compact and comfortable (Nguyen, 2018).
(c) Critique a body of construction information:
There are no. of error and faults that can happen during construction, which are as follow:
1. Errors in construction
2. Bad design
3. Stress in pipes and building columns
4. Ignoring effects of creeps
5. Compatibility of construction raw materials
6. Joints having inadequate travel
7. Insufficient supply of the deflection
8. Immediate variation in the section
9. Insufficient structure of the design

LO4 Assess ways in which construction professionals collaborate in the
production of construction information
(a) Assess the types of information produced by different participants:
There are different participants which will provide different type of information that can
help towards efforts in construction, the following participants are listed below:
Clients: Clients are a very significant part of any project. Clients are the participant
that helps the contractor to vision the building as the client, by communicating about
details information about construction. In this case study, we have to build a small
building which means approx. 4-6 stories. The client for this project might be an
individual person or an organization may be responsible for the construction of this
building. The client is responsible for all the major decisions like timeframe for
construction, the start date of construction. The client can hire a consultant to guide
him through the process of making these decisions.
Consultant: Consultant is hired by clients. The job of a consultant is to guide the
client through the process of making construction decision. There are numerous
amounts of construction decisions that had to make in order to finish the project in
time. There are many other actors which are associated with the consultancy like
architecture who will design the building with proper calculations, civil engineers
who will responsible for making sure that at the site the construction is going well
and according to the construction plan and technical experts are there to provide
technical expertise to the civil engineer’s
Designer: The designer will design the 4-6 story building depending upon the need
an area of land. The designer is an essential element to the project because without
his design their no concrete evidence that the type of building clients is actually
possible or not, as its designer job to find a way to make sure that client’s vision is
supported by mathematical rules (Ramlee, 2016).
(b) Examine the relationship between different bodies of information and how
they work in conjunction:
So far, we have understood, how and when construction information helps the project and in
how many ways. There are various entities and their attribute which contributes towards a
successful construction project. We have discussed the type of actors or participant in the
above section. The main actors are clients who want the construction of the building which
they desire. The client is responsible for all the major decisions like timeframe for
construction, the start date of construction. The client can hire a consultant to guide him
through the process of making these decisions. The consultancy firm will provide also
provide some more actors along with consultant like architecture who will determine and
design the calculation and design of the buildings, civil engineers who are responsible for
designing the building. There is also a relationship between clients and technical experts.

Technical experts which provide with essential technicalities like electrical work and
material required for the construction (Azhar, 2011).
(c) Compare the roles of CAD and BIM
BIM CAD
In BIM the designer can have all the
files and designs in a single file which
eliminated the need of having multiple
databases (Tan, 2017).
CAD is a very old designer tool. Till
now designers and architect use CAD
tool for designing their building.
BIM has a cloud storage platform which
helps all the participants access the
project design and calculation from
anywhere and at any time.
Error finding and elimination are very
easy and compatible in software like
CAD.
BIM has a functionality of showing
functionality and physical characteristics
of any project
CAD does not have any perfect
techniques for designing a building
which increases the complexity for a
user (Zhu, 2017)
BIM is only used for the case of
designing the building along with its
architecture
CAD comes with a learning curve which
means that there are many tools and
technologies which are very essential in
order to fully master the software and
make the best of it’s provided facilities

Conclusion
In this project, we have used construction information to improve any construction project. In
LO1 we use a different type of construction information to find the right fit for our small project.
After analyzing all the projects, we found out that type 2 is the best way to go in our project. In
LO2 we learned about designing and drawing of a virtual design of the building, In LO3 we
discuss the number of materials and non- materials items that are going to be needed in the
construction of this building. In LO4 we compared CAD and BIM and how they play an
important role in different construction projects. We also discussed participant of any
construction project which include actors like clients, civil engineers, consultant etc. In addition,
this project was a great learning experience and provided me with a lot of insight.
