INTRODUCTION
Construction industry is leveraging technology very effectively in order to make the
management of construction sites and operations more sustainable and efficient. In terms of
technology and innovation, the construction industry trends include business information
modelling, artificial intelligence etc. A reflective writing is the representation of own experience
in particular situation in precise manner thereby identification of weak areas that must be
improved through appropriate action plan. The present report is the reflection on the topic
“technology and innovation in construction industry”. The report will include a reflection on
learning and development process of above topic. Further there is outline how learning is helpful
in future studies and development plan. In the end the report contains personal development plan.
MAIN BODY
A reflection on the learning and development process of innovation and technology in the
construction industry
The module studied by me was on the topic “Innovation and technology in construction
industry”. In the introductory part of this module I have learnt about the basic concept of the
construction industry. I have understood about the functions and operations of the construction
industry through a general definition of construction industry. With this I have learnt about the
role of innovation and technology in the construction industry and how rapidly it is growing the
particular industry. This helped me to understand that technology and innovation in this industry
is helpful in providing more sustainability to the construction industry. This helped me to learn
and expand my knowledge on innovation and technology and construction industry.
Further in the next session of the module I learned about the innovation and technology
impacts on the build environment. In this I have gained learning about the concept of the
artificial intelligence and machine learning. Here I learned research skills to research deeply into
the topic that include two different subjects and there role with each other. Here I learned that
how artificial and machine learning technology help the construction industry in managing
complexities of construction sites. I learned about how machine learning as a technology assist
the construction industry in decision making and also optimize the workflow. Also I have
learned that this type of technology help the business of construction industry in forecasting of
future outcomes.

Then I learned about new innovation that is resource and workflow management software. I
learned that through this construction industry get aid in managing resources and human
resource. This helped me learn management skills and also about the importance of management
of resources in the construction industry to reduce the expenses and also for effective employees
management. during this I also learned about the concept of resource allocation.
While learning about workforce management solution I have learned the human resource
management skills in which I also developed my technical skills as the learning was all related to
the technology and innovation in the construction industry. In this module I have learned about
the benefits different technologies and innovation provide to the construction industry in terms of
operational efficiency, profitability, work quality and much more.
Through different examples of the following topic I have learned about the different
different innovations in construction industry such as Robotics Total stations which is a well
equipped electronic measurement software. From the module I have also learned about the cloud
computing technology and its role and benefit in construction industry. Further I have learned
about the future implication of technology and innovation in construction industry by which I
learned about the how importance for the business to transform into sustainable business for
future growth. Thus from this module I have gained a deep understanding and knowledge
regarding the technology and innovation and most importantly its role in the construction
business. Also this learning and development process is highly important for me to gain growth
in my career in this field. As for this it is important for me to pertain knowledge regarding the
construction site and as every industry is adapting new technologies therefore the knowledge of
innovation and technology, its impact on the build environment will help to gain growth in this
industry more effectively. But in the whole learning and development process I have also faced
many difficulties and was able to identify my weak areas that I must improve in future.

All the learning I have gained throughout this module on technology and innovation in
construction industry will help me in future studies and development plan. The learning of
different set of skills will help me to study factor with ease and accuracy that will support me to

Reflection on completion of presentation
To reflect on my experience for performing the presentation, application of Gibbs
Reflective Theory is effective. My experience is presented below within six stages of Gibbs
Reflective Theory:
Description: While preparing presentation of “Innovation and Technology in Construction
Industry”, I performed very well. I researched about many software and technologies which can
help in reducing costs of construction firms and improves performances of employees. I
highlights ways and measures through which organisations in this industry can perform their
tasks smoothly and avoid unnecessary expenses. After completion of presentation, my
knowledge about technology and innovation has increased which will further assist me in my
future endeavours.
Feelings: While presenting the collected information to my peers in form of presentation, I
was nervous as I was not sure whether they will pass me or not. But I was confident about the
research and information I collected which boosted my motivation. I worked very hard on this
presentation and completed it within given time which enhances my self confidence. My peers
also showed positive approach to my presentation and provide me with constructive feedback.
Evaluation: By properly evaluating my whole presentation, I got to understand which
method worked for me and which resulted in negative outputs. I evaluated that I should research
more about companies working in construction sector and talk to employees to better understand
importance of innovation and technology in their day to day life. The positive aspect of my
presentation is my thorough information about varied type of innovation used in construction
industry. I discussed about new technologies like robotics total stations and sustainable options
used by organisations which helps them to effectively reduce carbon emission to save
environment.
Analysis: In this step, I made proper analysis of what results in positive output in my
presentation and what failed to get peers attention. My thorough research about new technologies
and innovations in construction industry has proved to be successful in making my presentation
attractive. This also allowed me to understand how important it is for companies to transform
their technologies into more sustainable options for rapid growth. Whereas, in making this
presentation I faced some difficulties which I identified after getting feedback from my peers.
Conclusion: In last, researching about innovation and technology as well as making a

presentation on that allows me to learn thoroughly about new technologies implemented in
construction area. I have manage to develop various my research skills about a certain topic and
what factors can impact their operations. Making this presentation has also improved my
technical skills as I got to learn about various benefits of innovations and technology in terms of
efficiency, performances and productivity.
Action Plan: My action plan is to develop and improve my public speaking skills so that I
can confidently give presentation about my researches. For this I will strive to organise my
collected material in effective manner to grab listeners attentions. I will work on my nervousness
and fear of public speaking which will help me to effectively convey my message to audience.
Developing public speaking skills will help me with career advancements as this will allow me
to have leadership skills, critical thinking and more professionalism.
