Description of the research topic & overall aim
The topic aims to describe what effective negotiation in the construction industry. The report will
deal with seeing how the negation process is implemented in the work being done in
construction. It would be necessary to identify what would be the positive factors that would
occur by using this process and what would be the negative factors as well. Negotiation is a
process in which the contractor makes sure to negotiate prices of resources at each stage of the
project so that fewer expenses are occurred and more profit is made (Kozina, 2014).
Background of the research
The research project is being so that effective analysis can be done about what are the factors
that affect construction projects. There is more than one risk that is associated with construction
and would need to be identified. There are a number of construction projects that occur in
Australia, but without proper negotiation they do not achieve successful project. Project
negotiations have not been highlighted enough in the construction industry as many people
believed that it is not an aspect that should be taken seriously. So a proper research needs to be
taken to show why this factor is necessary to be understood regarding the construction industry
projects.
Evidence of the research gaps
For having proper research done for this report, it needs to be seen that in-depth knowledge
should be gained. There will gaps in the research that would need to be looked at or else the
information being gathered would not be efficient at all. One of the research gaps that was
identified is that there were different opinions that were found of various parties associated with
the project. If opinions are different then it would be hard to see which are should the process be
applied and which it should not.
Another research gap is that all of the terms relating to the negotiation process would have to be
identified or else the research would not have proper information to be attained (Fernando et. al.
2013).

Significance of intended research
The significance of conduct such a research is to show how construction projects can be
controlled in a more effective manner. This would be done by identification of where the
negotiation process is used or where it should be used in construction processes. This would also
help to see how the project could be more productive so that better results are achieved. Also, by
using negotiation skills it would help in seeing how the conflicts which arise in construction
project can either be avoided or solved in an effective manner.
Research questions
These questions are designed in such a manner that they would bring the research more closure
to achieving the set out aim. All of the factors relating to negotiation process would be
highlighted and how they would be affecting the construction project is to be achieved by the
questions.
Q1. Is there any impact of negotiation in construction projects?
Q2. How has negotiation affected the construction projects?
Q3. Which types of negotiation processes are used in the construction projects?
Q4. What are the major problems related to current negotiation problems in the construction
projects?
Q5. What are the possible changes can be implemented in the negotiation processes in the
future?
Data collection methods & sampling plan
The data which is collected will be done through both primary data collection and secondary data
collection. For primary data collection the use of a questionnaire would be adopted that would
collect information about the different stakeholders view on the negotiation process. This would
help in seeing what each of the stakeholders, associated with the project, has an opinion on the
negotiation process.

For collecting data of the secondary research, journal articles would be used. Only peer-reviewed
journals are going to be used to see what role the negotiation process plays in the construction
projects. By doing this more information would be gained about how different construction
projects in Australia have used this process for their own benefit or whether it has caused losses
to occur for them (Galloway, 2012).
Research findings
The findings that are achieved from this would help to identify what would be the implications of
implementing proper negotiation process in Australian construction projects. There are many
complexities which occur in construction project regarding the level of prices that are being
offered by different suppliers. So through the negotiation process these would need to be
identified and dealt with. There would be various stakeholders that would require different
process to be dealt with.
