1 PROJECT QUALITY MANAGEMENT PLAN PURPOSE
The purpose of this project quality plan is to describe all the activities involved in the
construction of a 4-storey building with the intent to deliver a product by concentrating on
realizing the client’s quality expectations. Accordingly, the company’s policy is to ensure that it
is in a position to provide a quality product at the lowest cost, within the timeframe and to the
client’s specifications.
2 QUALITY MANAGEMENT APPROACH
Managing project quality requires an approved quality plan encompassing three major quality processes
defined in Section 2.1. The quality plan is developed and approved during the project planning phase to
confirm major deliverables/milestone acceptance criteria and manage approved project processes.
2.1 Quality Objectives of the Project
The purpose of this project quality plan is to describe all the activities involved in the
construction of a 4-storey building with the intent to deliver a product by concentrating on
realising the client’s quality expectations. Accordingly, the company’s policy is to ensure that it
is in a position to provide a quality product at the lowest cost, within the timeframe and to the
client’s specifications.
2.2 Quality Plan Processes
Quality Management (Quality Assurance of both the processes to deliver the product and
project management processes)
Quality assurance activities focus on both the processes to create the product but also the
processes to manage the project. Quality assurance is a method to ensure the project will satisfy
the quality standards and will define and record quality reviews, test performance, and customer
acceptance. Quality assurance is based on the assumption of continuous improvement.
Quality Control
Quality control activities are performed continually to verify that project management and project
deliverables are of high quality and meet quality standards. Quality assurance also helps uncover
causes of unsatisfactory results and establish lessons learned to avoid similar issues in this and
other projects.
Project Deliverables and Processes Acceptance Criteria
Project team members and key stakeholders agree at the project planning stage on formal project
processes and major deliverable acceptance criteria that will be used to evaluate final deliverable
results before the results are formally approved.
Differences between Quality Assurance and Quality Control
Quality assurance is a process which focus on giving assurance regarding the quality request to
be attained while quality control focus on meeting the quality request.

QA target to prevent defect while the goal of QC is identifying and improving the defects.
QA is a technique of managing quality while QC is the approach to verify quality.
QA process does not include program execution whereas QC involves program execution.
QA is the process of establishing the project deliverables whereas QC is the process of verifying
the project deliverables.
2.3 Project Overview
Commercial buildings such as an office accounts for approximately 20 percent of the
construction output in Canada. Therefore, the commercial industry demands for buildings which
are fast to construct, flexible, high quality as well as adaptable in the application and energy
efficient is usage (Pheng, & Meng, 2018). Accordingly, composite as well as steel construction
which is used in the construction of the 3-storey building which has long span benefits, rapid
speed of construction, enhanced quality as well as reduced environmental effects. The goal of
this construction project is to build commercial buildings which are energy sufficient and of high
quality which is environment friendly. Accordingly, the 3-storey building is constructed with
available resources in addition to manually levelled resources with the help of Microsoft Project
software. The total construction costs is estimated at $30,000. Certainly, to make sure that there
is no clash in activities the project employ a project plan which schedules each task and the
timeframe. The assumption made in the project is that there.
2.4 Quality Standards
There are various risks in construction project therefore the construction will be done against the
construction International standardization of organization (ISO). In order to ensure quality
standards the construction will observe several steps to improve the construction quality
standards (Griffith, Stephenson, & Watson, 2014). The first step is getting the right specification
by checking on manufacturer’s websites and product installation specifications as well as
reviewing the building code and industrial standards. Another quality is construction site
specification and defining the right approach by looking for any discrepancies. Quality standards
help to determine ways on how to eliminate causes of unsatisfactory performance.
2.5 Quality Tools
“Check-sheet: it is used for recording the construction events and non-events.
Checklist: It is used to inform the project manager if there are certain things which ought to be
checked.
Histogram: It provide the graphical illustration of the specific measured values in the
construction data set based on the frequency of occurrence which aid in visualizing the
distribution of data.
Pareto analysis: It is an approach used to give priority to the problems in the construction project
in order for early attention to focus of such issues with the greatest impact.

2.6 Quality Manager’s Responsibilities
The responsibility of the project manager is to lead the project team through constant
communication and holding meetings regarding the progress of the project. The manager work to
ensure that quality is not hampered in any way by ensuring the project team adheres to all the
construction standards.
3 PROJECT QUALITY MANAGEMENT (Quality Assurance)
Quality assurance helps to establish if a deliverable is acceptable based on the processes used to create
it. Quality assurance processes are used to evaluate overall project performance frequently and to
determine that quality reviews were held, deliverables and project management processes were actually
tested, and customer acceptance acquired.
3.1 Quality Assurance Processes
The QA procedure include defining requirements, material requirements, planning, testing of
material. Defining requirements is the initial step which is used to determine the customer’s
needs (Chen, & Luo, 2014). Accordingly, this is a crucial stage since the structural design of the
construction is determined by the client’s needs. On the same note material requirements is the
next step which comes after the identification and definition of the customer’s needs (Bull,
Castro, & Nakada, 2018). Indeed, material requirements is significant and it has to listed so that
to understand all the necessary materials and supplies which will be used. Thus, after the
material planning has been completed it is essential to begin to develop a plan for the completion
of the different tasks through a clearly drawn workflow outline (Howarth, & Greenwood, 2017).
During this point the project manager invites tenders so as to get the building material and
supplies which have to be recoded for future reference. Lastly but not least material testing
where it is good to test the materials before using them. Therefore, at this period internal and
third part laboratories will test the composition of the chosen materials for approval or
disapproval.
3.2 Project Monitoring Processes
The monitoring process is done by construction supervisors who work to see to it that all stated
standards have been adhered to.
3.3 Project In-Process Quality Monitoring
Assurance is assessed all through the construction course by supervisors working to ensure that
the project meet all standards as specified in all steps.

4.2 Project Quality Control Activities
Quality control process involves the following:
Determining the program of quality control
Proactively controlling the quality conditions of the processes events.
Inspecting the effectiveness of the quality process activities in time.
Setting the process control point with major controls.
4.3 Project Deliverables Acceptance Criteria
Once the product has been accomplished the building will be assessed by the relevant state
construction agency to ensure that its meets all the construction regulations and standards.
5 PROJECT AUDITS & QUALITY REVIEWS
“The audit plan will involve talking to the construction client and project personnel, observation, and
reviewing quality assurance and quality control records and report. After conducting the audit an action
plan will be developed so as to figure out on how to improve the results.”
