INTRODUCTION
Planning is the important aspect which is must to consider while formulating plans
regarding completion of work on time. The important nature of planning is understood from the
fact that provides an opportunity in earlier identification of risks along with ascertainment of
mitigating measures. This will help in future to minimise project associated uncertainties and
improvement of the deliverables. The aspect of planning is more important in the sector of
construction. This sector covers wide nature of work related to development of buildings, malls,
highways etc. All the different nature of infrastructure is requires the performance of unique
planning of different attributes associated with the project. Successful planning and allocation of
duties to the different personnels in accordance to their nature help in completion of work on
time. The different aspects which were considered in planning of building construction includes
type of soil, level of water, strength of place, natural calamity impact zone etc. All these
information improves the capability of planning and help to include the usage of materials and
equipments which are of competent in nature according to the present situation. The current
report is based upon the redevelopment of Millennium Mills. This is situated on the southern side
of the Royal Victoria Dock. The main objective of this report is to do effective construction
planning in development of infrastructure which will be 2050 ready and free from the impact of
natural calamities.
The aspects cover in this report includes explanation of construction methods and
logistics for the redevelopment that contributes in reduction of carbon emission and reduce
pollution, analysis of Health and Safety obligations and provide detailed method statements
supported with pictorials for the construction of the major elements of the works and outlining of
the programme that includes the information related to key elements along with resource
smoothing opportunities.

1. Choice of construction methods and logistics for the redevelopment in direction of reducing
carbon emission and pollution
The different number of influences ascertained upon various aspects due to the presence
of excessive pollution within an environment includes environmental degradation, poor human
health, global warming, ozone layer depletion, infertile land etc. Also, the major influence of

carbon emission seen over environment and human health. The issue attached with same
includes high smog, air pollution, creating the conditions of extreme weather, disruption on food
supply, wild fires, climate change etc. All these issues integrally worsen the situation of
environment and negatively impacts the health of each and every one exists in such
surroundings.
This will brings an obligation over the organisations and personnels associated with such
kind of operations that impacts environment to focus over adoption of measures and new ways of
working that aid in minimisation of risk towards environment. This will also brings obligation
over organisations of construction industry to control the activities that have large carbon
emission or adopt the ways that are environment friendly in nature.
The work currently performing is related to reconstruction of Millennium Mills that
would be sustainable in nature and able to stand till 2050 properly without any damages. The
main reason behind adopting such objective with redevelopment of building is presence of large
number of crisis that impacts the viability of strength and builds the possible chances of collapse.
The different number of crises events which are increasing rapidly with high strength includes
powerful rainfall events, higher temperatures and sea level rise. Focusing over sustainability
provides an opportunity in formulation of safe buildings where there will be no harm to their
health in future in the condition of occurring any kind of negative event.
Millennium Mills is located at southern side of the Royal Victoria Dock. It is ascertained
that required to plot 4 behind the construction of new building that fulfils all different
requirement of client. The main work needed to perform is related to feasibility study and outline
design for the redevelopment of mill in the direction of reducing carbon emission and pollution.

Construction methods that aid in reduction of carbon emission
Adoption of deconstruction method over demolition: Currently, work is related to the
redevelopment of Mill in sustainable building which will be ready to face crises till 2050. The
best method that will aid in reducing the amount of carbon emission within an environment
includes focusing over deconstruction instead of its full demolition in one stage. The benefit of
same ascertained in the manner that it eliminates the exposure of dust particles in air that creates
due to the demolition of building. Also, deconstruction help to save money due to usage of

materials that are in reusable condition. The money is not only the prime aspect that saved but
the environment also protected from emission of carbon as nothing will be emitted in process of
re-usage. The major emission of carbon is noticed in the activities of fresh production and
construction that will be eliminated in the case of re-usage.
Use of low carbon cement: The one which is most carbon intensive construction
material and commonly used in construction process is Concrete. The main cause behind same is
that production of various cement components requires extreme level of heat that resultants into
CO2. It is noticed from the study that if low carbon emission cement is used on the place of
traditional alternatives then easily can reduce the emission of GHG by 6% between 2017 to
2050. There are many methods that can be adopted towards reduction of carbon emission in
redevelopment of Mill includes use of green concrete, the one which is carbon injected and in
last made from the method of recycled CO2. The best one one to use in current case will be
application of concrete build from the recycled CO2. This will work as win win strategy in the
direction of mitigation and adaption in process of sustainable construction.
Switching from the use of high emission materials to sustainable timber: The use of
timber is in popularity due to its contribution towards reducing emission of carbon within an
environment. This is used as beams that provides support to building structures instead of
concretes. It is determined from the study that contribution of timber usage in reduction of GHG
emissions will be 6% between 2017 to 2050. This can be attained in the situation when used in
construction of residential structures by 75% and 50% in commercial buildings. This would be
the better option to adopt in the current project of redeveloping of Mill in sustainable building.
This not only help to reduce carbon emission but aid in completion of activities in cost effective
manner.
Efficiency implementation in material design: The different number of materials used
in the construction of building are main reason behind the emission of carbon at higher rate. It is
noticed from the study that the materials which are commonly used like cement and steel are
largest factor towards emission of carbon. The minerals which are present in carbon are account
for 32% of all emissions in process of consuming whole amount of materials. On the other hand,
minerals of steel are account for 15%. This creates the demand in all over the world regarding
the usage of eco friendly building materials that are effective in construction of building and
have less emission of carbon in environment. In this regard, there many materials that can be

used for replacing the traditional materials includes bamboo, cork, sheep's wool insulation etc. In
the current project of Mill redevelopment required to focus over the use of these new or
advanced option in different ways so better can be ascertained in both aspect i.e. future
sustainability and low carbon emission (Construction methods that aid in reduction of carbon

Logistics option for the redevelopment of Mill to reduce pollution
Electric vehicle usage instead of those operated through petrol or diesel: The
procedure of procuring different raw materials is important in starting the working related to
construction either fresh or redeveloping in nature. This includes the usage of different number
of transportation methods and mediums to procure materials till stated site of construction. It is
important in current project to use electric vehicles for transportation of building material instead
of of those operated through petrol or diesel. The impact of this not only help in reduction of
pollution but aid in reducing he usage of non renewable resources. The impact of same will be
ascertained in future as operating cost efficiently.
Driving Restrictions: This step has huge contribution towards the reduction of pollution
in environment from different transportation medium usages. This is about restricting upon speed
of vehicles and the load they carry. This will provides an opportunity to reduce the emission of
carbon within an environment up to 9 to 11%. To effectively regulate this focus over usage of
computer devices that track all vehicles at different points on the basis of speed and load.
Focusing over application of this process in redevelopment of Mill aid to minimise the level of
pollution contributed by the vehicles (Logistics option to reduce pollution, 2020).
Not allowance the use of second hand vehicles: It is is noticed that second vehicles are
more contributors of carbon emission. In this regard, there is needed to restrict the use of second
hand vehicles or the one that did not able to pass the pollution test. The benefit of same
ascertained in form of less carbon emission or usage of electrification method in transporting of
goods. The application of same rule in procedure of redeveloping a Mill will be effective an aid
to disburse the message about use of electrified vehicles or that have least pollution contribution
in environment.

identify the systems and practices with which I am equipped. If a training area exceeds my
