In Chapter three, the three words that I selected are American Hospital Association,
per capita and Gross Domestic Product otherwise abbreviated as GDP. An Association
simply means a collection or rather a team of individuals with the same attributes or attributes
or the same professionals. This can include teachers, police or the medical officers.
Therefore, in my own understanding, the first term American Hospital Association simply
means a collection of different Hospitals in America. The hospitals might have together in
order to champion for their needs. In the field of public health, American Hospital
Association is a team of hospitals that have together to improve health status among the
public or citizens. Working together as a team is very advantageous. It creates a network
which can lead to employment besides continued education. This term will therefore shape
my future career in public health.
The second term in chapter three is per capita. Per means individually. In my own
understanding, per capita means the amount of money spent or contributed by a single
individual. In public health, I have encountered the term per capita several times. It is the
amount of capital spend by the government on an individual in healthcare. In future, the
amount of capital spent or contributed by an individual can shape public health. As a public
health officer, I will ensure that I spend much as possible. The final word in chapter three is
gross domestic product. Basically, this means the total amount of products produced within a
particular country for a period of one year (Coyle, 2017). I public health, it can mean the total
sum of drugs produced within a country.
In chapter four, the selected terms include Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act,
National Incident Management system (NIMS) and Mortality and Morbidity Weekly Report.
The Federal food, drug and Cosmetic Act. An act is basically a bill that focus on one
particular thing. In this case, it therefore means a bill that regulates food, drug and cosmetics
industries in the United States of America. I have encountered this term several times. I have

seen the federal government come up with stringent measures to tackle or prevent
consumption and selling of harmful food, drug and cosmetics to the general public. It has a
great impact on my future career in public health. A safe and healthy public means no
harmful products sold or supplied to them. I will therefore champion the act to ensure the
public is safe.
The second term is morbidity and mortality weekly report. Morbidity is risk factors
while mortality is death. This term therefore means a weekly report indicating the risk factors
and death from a particular condition ("World TB Day — March 24, 2019," 2019). As a
public health officer, I have published such reports severally. In future, publishing such
reports as a public health officer ensures that relevant measures are put in place to prevent the
spread of different diseases.
Finally, NIMS generally refers to a system that manages or looks at the incidence of
different health conditions. I have used this term several times when calculating incidence
rates of different infections like HIV. Understanding this term makes one a good public
health officer since they generally deal with affects the general public.
