Consumer protection is an important concern for every organisation for
which various legislation has been imposed by the government of UK. In the
given case, the MY travel agency could not satisfy the customer with the
services of the resort which have booked for the customer. These issues
create need to understand the consumer protection laws, also understanding
of their needs and wants. Various consumer protection legislation is:
Consumer Protection Act 1987: This act protects the customers by
making person liable for damages due to defects in the products and
services offered to them. In travel and tourism sector travel agents
and companies involved are responsible for the damages.
Package Travel Regulation Act 1992: This act is applicable to
those businesses who are engaged in selling tour packages. The act
suggest that all the terms and conditions must be clearly defined to
the clients at the time of entering into the contract. This will help
MY travel to sell packages and satisfy their customers.
Trades Description Act 1968: This act is applicable on service
providers to protect the customers from misleading information
which is been provided to them while entering into the contract. In
travel and tourism sector the travel agents need to disclose all the
details of travelling’s is important otherwise they may be
penalised.
Accommodation Services: It is responsibilities of the hotels and
travel agents to provide hygienic accommodation and food to the
customers which is crucial to satisfy them. The consumer
protection act also signifies that the quality of the services is must
in travel and tourism sector as it affects the image of the company
and of the country too.
